Nicholas Trela Obituary

Nicholas Stephen Trela A young man who spent his life bringing smiles to his family and exceeding the expectations of doctors, died May 28, 2008, at St. Louise Hospital in Gilroy surrounded by his loving family. He was 30 Mr. Trela grew up in San Jose, taking part in programs for children with special needs at Chandler Tripp, Herman Intermediate and Santa Teresa High schools before moving to Gilroy in 1997 with his family. He attended Gilroy High until 1999. In recent years he spent his time between homes in Gilroy and San Martin, taking part in programs for developmentally disabled adults. Despite his physical challenges, he visited more than 20 states and Canada in his life. And nothing seemed to bring Mr. Trela more joy than using his cell phone - if he had a person's number, he or she could count on at least one call a day from him. Mr. Trela was the beloved son of Carmel Trela of Gilroy and the late Joseph Trela III; dear brother of Joseph Trela IV of Gilroy; Nathaniel Trela (wife Michelle) of Chesterfield, Mich.; Anthony Trela (wife Elizabeth) of San Jose. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. May 31, St. Mary Catholic Church in Gilroy, with a viewing preceding the Mass. Private cremation. Memorials to Von Hippel Lindau Family Alliance.

I did not know Nick well, but I know that he was loved by his family. I hope that the memories of the time they had with him will help carry his family and friends through their sorrow.
