Paul Frank Blefari, age 96, of Sunnyvale, California, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 23, 2021. Paul was born on July 8, 1925, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the oldest child of Eugenio and Talinda Sciarra Blefari. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rose Sayers, Eva Laurin LaFlamme, Laura Sayers, and brother, Frank Blefari. Paul is survived by his wife of 71 years, Dolores A. Blefari, his daughter, Paula Hammer (Rick), son, Eugene (Gino) Blefari (Joanie), and daughter, Donna Ogden (Fritz); grandchildren, Sarah Lockerman (Jay), Erin Alcon (Rickey), Paul (PJ) Ogden, Alexandra Blefari, Lauren Blefari, and Nicholas Ogden; great grandchildren, Kylie, Hayley, Brittany, Aubrey, and Taylor.
Paul was raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII under Patton's 3rd Army, Company B, 134th Infantry Regiment. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star and two Purple Heart Medals, and after his recovery and discharge, he attended Siena College where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
He met his wife, Dolores Astore, in 1948, and they were married on June17, 1950. They had two children, Paula and Gino, before relocating to California, where their third child, Donna, was born. They settled in Sunnyvale, California, in 1960, and raised their family.
Paul worked for the United States Treasury Department for many years before retiring and opening his own tax service as an Enrolled Agent in Los Altos, California. Paul was an avid volunteer and active member of the Church of the Resurrection and in many other organizations. He was a 4th Degree member, Color Corps member, and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 3436 in Sunnyvale, California, a member and officer of the Palo Alto Elks Lodge, and a member of the Italian Catholic Federation of Sunnyvale, California, Branch 408, since 1991, where he served multiple terms as President and rose to serve as First Vice President at the Santa Clara District.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 6:00pm, with a Rosary following at 7pm at LIMA & CAMPAGNA SUNNYVALE MORTUARY, 1315 Hollenbeck Avenue, Sunnyvale, California. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 12:30pm, at CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION, 1399 Hollenbeck Avenue, Sunnyvale, California, and a Graveside Burial following at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln Street, Santa Clara, California. Due to Covid-19, a Celebration of Life Reception will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul's name to the Italian Catholic Federation, Branch 408, of Sunnyvale or to the Knights of Columbus, Council 3436, in Sunnyvale.
