Peter Hubert Obituary

Peter Robert Hubert
June 17, 1948 - November 3, 2015
Resident of San Jose
Peter Robert Hubert passed away peacefully after a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's disease. He was preceded in death by his late parents David Hubert and Evlyn Hubert. He is survived by his partner of 12 years, Vera Macheret, and her son, Andrew, Peter's brothers, Steven Hubert (Jane), San Jose, CA and James Hubert, Modesto, CA, his nephews, Marc Hubert (Kristen), Hong Kong and Jordan Hubert, San Jose, CA, and his stepsons, Uri Leschauer, San Jose, CA and Eran Leschauer, Mesa, Arizona.
Peter was wholeheartedly dedicated to his law practice and always treated his clients foremost as individuals and then cases. For over 30 years, he devoted all of his energies to representing his family law, criminal law and personal injury clients, many of whom became close personal friends.
Peter grew up in the San Jose area where he attended Trace Elementary, Hoover Middle School, and Abraham Lincoln High School. He went on to obtain a bachelor's degree in 1970 from San Jose State University. Thereafter, Peter enrolled at Santa Clara University Law School where he earned his Juris Doctor (JD) degree in 1973.
Following graduation from Law School, Peter was admitted to the California Bar in 1974. He was also admitted to the United States District Court, Northern District of California, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He belonged to the following organizations: Santa Clara County Bar Association; California Trial Lawyers Association (now Consumer Attorneys of California); Association of Trial Lawyers of America; and the American Bar Association.
From the late 1970's to the mid 1990's, Peter was on the Board of Volunteers in Parole, Santa Clara County branch (an organization that works with and mentors parolees from the California Youth Authority). He also taught as a street law teacher at the California Youth Authority Correctional Institution in Ben Lomond, California.
Peter worked on several pro bono projects through the Santa Clara County Bar Association and especially enjoyed sitting as a pro tem Judge hearing Small Claims matters and serving as a personal property division mediator in divorce cases. For his mediation efforts, the Family Law Section of the Santa Clara County Bar Association honored him with its "pots and pans" award, which was an actual black skillet pan inscribed with a dedication for his successful efforts as a mediator.
Peter was proud of his Jewish heritage, and served as a Board member and for three years as the President of the local B'nai B'rith lodge.
From childhood on, Peter was often referred to as "Sweety Petey". With his caring heart and thoughtfulness for those less advantaged, he truly was a sweet and generous human being, When Peter would see a homeless person in tattered clothing, he would rush home, collect some clothes, and bring them back to the person. When a down on his luck person asked for money for food, Peter wouldn't give him money; instead, he would take him to a restaurant and share a meal with him.
Peter was committed to his community and the arts and generously contributed to Symphony of Silicon Valley, San Jose Opera, the Rose Garden Library, animal shelters, and many other organizations.
First and foremost, Peter was a righteous and selfless human being. Through his efforts as an attorney and a supporter of his community, he helped better the lives of so many people. He will be greatly missed.
A private family burial has taken place at Home of Peace in the Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose. There will be no public memorial service. Those wishing to remember Peter may make donations in his name to: Santa Clara University Law School; San Jose State University; the National Parkinson Foundation; Hospice of the Valley, San Jose, CA; or Temple Emanu-El, San Jose, CA.

Peter was my fraternity brother (Sigma Alpha Mu) at San Jose State. I always enjoyed his camaraderie, sense of humor, and was proud that he became a successful attorney in San Jose.
My deepest condolences to Pete's family.
May you rest in peace.

I worked with Peter on many cases that involved family and children. I was always pleased to see that Peter was on a case because of his deep felt wish to help the family. Peter reminded me of the humanity that was involved in each case.
Further, he was fun to work with. He is gone from us much too early but lives on in our memories.

I'm so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. He was one of the most upbeat and kind students I had the privilege of knowing at Lincoln High School. I will miss seeing his smiling face.

I just heard of Pete's passing and wish his siblings and extended family my heartfelt sympathy. I remember Pete especially from his early years, while he and his father pursued a career in law. Pete was quite focused and committed. As a family friend, he often visited with my family over the years enjoying our Italian culture and festivities. Though it has been years since I last visited with Pete, I remember him helping out in a legal matter. He did this often as I recall. Bless you Pete for your friendship and kindness towards the many you crossed paths with in your life. You are in my prayers.
