Richard Berger Obituary

Richard William Berger

Resident of Morro Bay

Age 72, died in his Morro Bay home on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 after fighting his courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born on March 6, 1939 in San Francisco, CA to the late Mr. & Mrs. William Berger. Graduated from Santa Cruz High School, served in the Air Force and in 1961 married Jo Anne Lysowski. They had three children, Kimberly, Karey and Brant who he loved very much and brought him the greatest joy of his life.

He built the Morgan House restaurant in the late 70's, which he owned and operated in Morgan Hill, CA, where he and his family resided. A few years later he opened Main Street Bar and Grill in Los Altos. Both restaurants were very successful and he was a very prominent man in both towns.

After his children were grown, he and Jo Anne divorced. Later in his years he moved to Aptos, CA where he married his wife Maureen Moon. He and his son set up a business together there and worked for years on an invention which became patented. Richard was a wonderful father and grandfather, loving brother, uncle, husband, great friend and always there to give others a listening ear and a few lessons about life! He was admired by his family for his great strength and courage, but most of all, the love he had for them. He will always be remembered and greatly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

Richard is survived by his two ex-wives, Jo Anne and Maureen, his daughter Kim and husband Pete, his daughter Karey and husband John, his son Brant and wife Julie, his step-children Mary, Carrie and Carl, his grandchildren Richard, Nichole, Justin, Hillary, Danielle and Stella, whom he adored, his brother Dennis and wife Leslie, his nieces Denise and Lisa, nephews William (Billy), Dennis Jr., Jay, Michael and his great grandchildren. He was further survived by many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, William and Amanda, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joleen and his two great-grandchildren.

At his request and honor, there will be no funeral services, but a private family function will be held at a later date to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Partners of San Luis Obispo County. The family would like to thank all of the visiting nurses for their kindness, help and support.

Uncle Dick-Thank you for all the crazy memories. Sometimes I laugh until I cry thinking about them. I never knew what to exspect from you, except the unexspected. That's what I really loved. Life was a journey. You gave Grandma and Grandpa Berger a son to be proud of, Aunt Jo and Dad a brother to go through the "journey" with and you gave me my best friend for life, "Kare Bear". Kim and Danielle, your love for Uncle Dick goes without saying. Every parent/grandparent should be so blessed to have someone to be there to the very end, loving and caring without hesitation. Now let the real journey begin! Your niece, Lisa
