Richard Sweeney Obituary

Richard Joseph Sweeney Born December 22, 1942 in Elmhurst, Illinois. Entered into rest on March 20, 2008. Richard attended grade school in San Francisco, before moving to Santa Clara, Ca. Richard was a proud graduate of St. Francis High School, class of 1960, in Mountain View California. Preceded in death by his parents Richard George Sweeney and Mary Elisabeth Hickley Sweeney. Survived by his sister Mary E. Goulet. Dick was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, serving his country from July, 1960 till October 1963 and then reservist till July, 1966 aboard the U.S.S Maury with the "B Division." He was responsible for the storage of nearly 400,000 gallons of fuel oil, the operation, maintenance and repairs of two boilers and associated auxiliary equipment, which was the heart of the power plant for the ship. Dick traveled to many destinations , such as Hawaii, Thailand, Japan, Bangkok, Singapore and Hong Kong during his years of active duty. He was employed with Universal Specialties, in Union City, for 29 years as a salesman. Beloved friend to many. Dick enjoyed Western movies, sports, reading and especially cooking his many favorite dishes for his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him and will always be remembered in our hearts, especially at "Sweeney-tini hour". God Bless you, Dick. A Memorial Mass celebrating Dick's life will be held at St. Martin of Tours Church of San Jose on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 11:00 am.
