Rick Neven Obituary

Egbert "Rick" Neven
April 25, 1935-Mar. 7, 2012
Resident of Los Gatos
Born to Irma Junker and Egbert Neven XVI in Antwerp Belgium. As a child "Rick" remembers leaving Belgium as invading Nazi troops were marching down the street and crossing the English Channel in a row boat during the middle of the night as an air-raid was occurring over England and France. The Neven's settled in Los Gatos where after attending Los Gatos High School "Rick" joined the U.S. Marine Corp. He proudly served in the 1st Marine Division during the Korean War and was honorably discharged after his recovery at a U.S. hospital in Japan. After attending SJSU he married Carol Jean Mitchell and had one son Scott Neven. He served Santa Clara County as a tax collector for 25 yrs and was proud to boast of never having to kick anyone out of their house. Grandpa Rick was intensely supportive and generous to his surviving family Scott Neven and wife Ginger Neven grandchildren Kaley, Sierra and Colby. He passed away peacefully in his home after a few years of declining health. A celebration of his colorful life will be held at Chapel of the Hills at 615 N. Santa Cruz Ave. on Sunday March 18th, 2012 at 3:00pm.

Rick always had funny and interesting stories that everyone enjoyed listening to. I learned so much from him and enjoyed morning and afternoon breaks with him and our usual break group, until retirement. Sympathies to you and your family Scott.

Rick led a rich life that held many interests. He was a loving and generous father to his only son and family. He will be remembered for his kindness and friendship. Also for the personalized gifts he made for his friends and family that sprang from his varied talents and hobbies that he loved. We will miss you. Rest In Peace Rick.

Our deepest condolences to the Neven family. I met Rick many years ago when we were both members of New Vistas at St. Mary's in Los Gatos. He was always the happiest guy in the group, always cheerful and he spread his cheerfulness throughout. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Family of Rick, I worked with Rick in the Assessor's office - I was in the Auditors section - and always enjoyed Ricks smile and pleasantness. We had many conversations and was a kind person but yet firm with those he had to deal with. My sympathy to you all. I know Rick is at peace now.
