Robert Calender Obituary

Robert Merle (Bob or Merle) Calender 8/1/1922 - 1/3/2009 Born in Rocky Ford, Co, he moved to Ca shortly before marrying his high school sweet hear, Dorothy Maxine (Mickey) Houchens of La Junta, CO (deceased). They were together for 62 wonderful years. He is survived by his loving daughter, Erin Bane (Randy) and granddaughter, Christine. He was predeceased by two brothers. He is survived by many sisters and brothers-in-law whom he always felt were his own siblings. He is also survived by an extended family who loved him dearly. Bob (Merle) was a WWII veteran. He served as a Radioman in Guadalcanal and in the South Pacific, where he worked on Admiral Halsey's Staff. After the service, he went to San Jose State, earning a BA in Industrial Relations. He was close to getting a Masters, but went to work instead. He worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space for over 30 years. After he retired, he did consulting work, as well as helping out family & friends. Services will be held at Lima Family Erickson Mortuary, 710 Willow St. San Jose on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 9:30 am. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: American Heart Assn/American Stroke Assn. 1-888-478-7653 or your local animal shelter.
