Rose Altilio Obituary
Rosina (Rose) Marie Altilio Former resident of San Jose, CAJan. 1, 1922 – Sept. 28, 2022 Rose Altilio passed away peacefully on September 28, 2022 after a long and loving life. She was born to Isabella and Vincenzo DeSimone in Brooklyn, NY, and lived in the house where she was raised until she and her husband, Joe, relocated to San Jose, California in 1973. Rose married Joseph Altilio in 1943, just a few days before he was sent overseas to serve during World War II. When he returned from the war, they began their life together – a life that lasted 76 years until Joe's passing in 2019. During that time, they were the center of their family, providing love and support to their daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rose was the consummate nurturer. Her love permeated all family gatherings and touched all those who were fortunate enough to know her.Rose worked only briefly outside the home. She loved fashion, jewelry and people; consequently, her work in retail was a source of enjoyment for her. But her focus was always her home and her family. Until her age slowed her down, she delighted in having her home be the gathering place for family and friends. The connections she made with people were lifelong, and she continued to let them know how important they were to her through phone calls and old-fashioned letter writing, even when the residual effects of a stroke made it uncomfortable to hold a pen.Rose was a beautiful soul. Her empathy, her ability to love unconditionally, and her genuine interest in others were her gifts. Her smile and her spirit brightened her family's lives, and their world will be a bit dImmer in her absence. Rose will be sorely missed. Her family wishes to thank Christina, Rose and all the caregivers at Bed of Roses Residential Care Home for the comfort, care, and love they provided during the last years of Rose's life. They, together with the hospice team at Vitas, eased her transition from this life with warmth and tenderness. Rose is survived by her daughter Susan Altilio Walter, her grandson Michael Walter (Julie Breher), her granddaughter Kristin Walter (Chris Mahle), her great grandchildren Max Mahle and Jacob Walter, and numerous nieces and nephews on both coasts.
