Stanford Hall Obituary

Stanford Leighton Hall
~
Resident of Los Altos and Cupertino
Stanford L. Hall, died 23 June 2021 in Santa Clara from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Southern California 92 years ago. He enlisted in the U.S. Army immediately after high school graduation to garner the benefit of the G.I. Bill for college education. Following his military commitment, he attended Pomona College in Claremont, graduating in 1952. He then began his working career in the aerospace industry.
While living in Pomona, he met and married his wife, Jacquelyn, in 1958. They moved to Northern California where they established their residence in Los Altos and began their family. Hilary was born in 1960 and Kevin in 1963. Stan worked in Palo Alto for Ford Aerospace which became Loral for the greater part of his career.
He maintained a lifelong passion respecting the power of steam. Steam locomotives, railroads in the U.S. and abroad, the below-deck-regions of steam-powered ships (SS Jeremiah O'Brien), and hand-operated steam apparatus all drew his undivided attention.
Upon retirement, he began a 20-year docent stint with Deer Hollow Farm in the Rancho San Antonio Preserve. There, he advised kindergartners that carrots come from the ground and milk from a cow.
The family thanks Sunny View Manor in Cupertino and the staff of their memory care unit, Summer House, for their compassionate care of Stan this past year.
Stan is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter Hilary (Roger) Bartels, MD, grandchildren Haley and Carson Bartels; son Kevin (Lesley) Hall, grandchildren Madison and Logan Hall; brother-in-law Ron Bean; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, and his sister. No service will be held.

I had the pleasure of meeting Stan just once. Jackie and he drove from Los Altos to Santa Rosa and watched their daughter, Hilary (and my friend) receive an Humanitarian award. Although Stan was quiet, he must have been very proud.
