Stanley Flowers Obituary

Stanley Ray Flowers Jr.
Resident of Hillsborough
The remarkable life of Stanley Ray Flowers Jr. came to a peaceful end on November 11 in the presence of his loving family; wife, Kris, sons, Ray and Jeff, and his grandchildren, Hermela and Yonathan.
Ray, as he was affectionately known, was born on November 30, 1948 as the oldest son of four siblings. His parents, Stan and Leeda, migrated to northern California from Texas to seek a better life for their family. Stan's business success enabled the family to move to Hillsborough where Ray went to middle school and then on to Burlingame High School. During his high school experience, Ray excelled in sports, especially football and track. He was a defensive back, the team kicker, and a league-winning quarterback. In his senior year, the football team went undefeated and won the league championship. Ray led his football team into Burlingame High School history by being the first team to go undefeated. Years later he was inducted into the Burlingame Hall of Fame in 2002.
Ray attended College of San Mateo before he decided to go into the family business. During this time he met the love of his life, Kristine Amstrup.
Ray was a successful businessman working at Flowers and Sons before moving on to Stan Flowers Co. and finally Raymark. He was very involved in community service in the Oakland area. Ray was also a reservist attaining the rank of lieutenant after graduating OCS. He served with honor.
Ray and Kris were thrilled when they had their first son Stanley Ray Flowers III. Not long after, their second son, Jeff Flowers, joined the family. The boys, like their father, were great sports enthusiasts. Ray served as their coach and board member in baseball and was pivotal in the establishment of Sea Cloud Park in Foster City. Ray was a great father and husband.
Ray's life took a major turn on January 12, 1990 when he was run into by another motorist in his car on a rainy night in the Oakland area. After being removed from the car by the Jaws of Life, he was transported to Highland Hospital where he remained in a coma for approximately 2.5 months.
Ray was a medical marvel. He went through the next 26 years in and out of the hospital. He was at heaven's gate several times. He fought through each setback with courage and dignity. Unfortunately, his tired body was not strong enough to fend off his most recent medical crisis. Ray's candle of life flickered and he entered the hands of God on Friday, November 11, 2016.
Ray was an honorable, loving, and a caring man. He was a loyal husband, an ideal father, and a loving grandfather. Despite his challenging medical issues, Ray was a model of courage to everyone that was lucky enough to meet him.
Ray, you will be deeply missed but never be forgotten.
Ray's service will be held at Crosby-N. Gray & Co. Funeral Home in Burlingame located at 2 Park Road at 12:30 pm Friday, November 25th.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

So sorry to hear of the loss of our great friend and classmate. My condolences go out to Ray's family.

December 15, 2016

I was in Combat Engineer training with Ray at Ft Leonard Wood Mo and we became close friends. When I received my orders to go to Vietnam, Ray invited me to stay with him and his family before reporting to Oakland Army Base. Ray was a genuine, caring person and I'm so sorry to learn about his death. The thing I remember best about Ray was his adoration of Kris. Ray was obviously wildly in love with Kris. Kris I met you couple of times and my heart and prayers go out to you.
With sympathy,

Ray was a welcoming and lively friend for me in the eighth grade at Crocker School. I admired his exploits in sports when we were classmates at Burlingame High School together. Ray will always be especially remembered for his role as quarterback in the magic undefeated football season when we were seniors at Burlingame. Ray Flowers, God bless you, and blessings to the family - your monument.

I am very saddened to hear of Ray's passing. We were not close friends in high school, but we shared a time together that was very special; I was fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of some of the outstanding passes he threw as quarterback of our undefeated football team. Many of those memories are still vivid for me to this day, even this many years later. I am grateful to Ray for those memories and wish his family the best during this difficult time.

Always remembering Ray's great smile. It was a pleasure to be a classmate of his. BHS Class of 1966. Love and prayers to his family.

It was my great pleasure to play on the same undefeated BHS football with Ray. In every way he was our quarterback. He superbly used the talents of each member of the time in a manner that won all our games. We did have good talent, but it was the way that Ray used that talent that made it an exemplary year. Ray, you will be missed as a good ol soul that left this earth to soon, but the choirs of angels will be cheering you into heaven like the Burlingame Cheerleaders and Pom Pom girls rooted you on during each successful game in our senior year. You will me missed by one and all. Sincerely, your teammate, David Shurtz

Kris-I was just thinking of Ray the other day. I am so sad to learn of his passing. You and he fought these battles together and he was so lucky to have such an amazing wife and advocate, I will never forget the day I met the two of you. My sincere condolences to you and the family.
