Tamoe Hirata Obituary

Tamoe 'Tee' Hirata
Feb. 21, 1918 - Feb. 24, 2014
Resident of Cupertino
Tee died of cancer at her home, surrounded by her family, three days after her 96th birthday. She was born in Coyote, CA, and married Mas Hirata in 1940. They and their families were interned in Poston, AZ, during World War II. In 1947, they moved to Cupertino, CA, where Tee and Mas lived out their lives.
Preceded in death by husband Mas Hirata, parents Moyo & Takuzo Nishiyama, sisters Em Hirose and Kay Hirai, brother Takumi Nishiyama, and son-in-law Richard Ellingson. Survived by son Tom and his wife Gloriane, daughter Lynda Ellingson, sister Betty Hagiya, sister-in-law Haru Imai, many multigenerations of nieces and nephews, and her beloved cat J.J.
The family wishes to thank Hospice of the Valley for its support and guidance during Tee's last few months. Special thanks to Case Manager Joanne Getas, a caring and compassionate nurse who was always there for us. Many thanks to Hospice volunteer Jo Forkish, who so generously gave her time to help us. Thanks also to the many family and friends who loved Tee and supported the family during this difficult time.
At Tee's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers or koden, the family suggests donations in Tee's memory to Hospice of the Valley, 4850 Union Ave., San Jose, CA 95124. Arrangements by Neptune Society with interment with her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery.

My mother was a beautiful person, inside and out. She always had a smile on her face, the most gorgeous smile that would light up any room. She always put her family first, sacrificing so much for us her entire life. She was an avid gardener who could tell you the botanical name of almost any plant. In even the darkest moments of her life, she never ever complained. She taught by example, and I learned millions of life lessons just by observing her. I was privileged to be her daughter and miss her every moment of every day. But I'm not sad--I'm happy that she's not suffering any more. I love you, Ma!

My heart goes out to my precious friend Lynda. I am sad for this family regarding the passing of Tee.
I was not fortunate enough to meet Tee although I always hoped the day would come.
I know the memories the family hold so dear will never dim.
Lynda I know how much your mom meant to you. Your best friend, your buddy your confidant.

Speak to her often and every time you do please remember to kiss and hug mom for me too.

I love you Lynda and am so sorry for your loss.
