Tom Montello passed away peacefully on January 18th, 2018 in Los Gatos, CA. Tom was born to Frank and Mary Montello of Calabria, Italy on March 11th, 1920 in San Jose California. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and later the Air Corps on December 17, 1941. Tom acquired the rank of Technical Sergeant and traveled throughout the European theatre during WWII as a renowned airplane mechanic. Returning home, he worked at Crown Zellerbach Paper Co. for 39 years, started a family with Joan Montello (nee Sabo) and raised three daughters. Tom retired in 1985, but continued to bring school supplies and resources to an orphanage in Mazatlan, Mexico for many years to follow. Throughout his storied life, his clever wit and irresistible charm turned countless strangers into lifelong friends. Tom is preceded in death by his siblings Joseph Montello and Angie Mangano (Tom), and is survived by his brother Bill Montello (Jackie), his wife Joan Montello, his three daughters, Kathleen Reinhart, Caroline Will and Lisa Ferraro (Nick), grandchildren Justin Reinhart (Sherilyn), Joey Reinhart, Trevor Will, Esteban Torres, Enrique Torres, and great grandchildren Hudson and Ezequiel Torres.

I was around 20 years old when I met Tommy as I started my career with Longs Drugs. He took me under his wings and I will always be thankful for the many things he taught me about the retail business. We had many lunches together. I found him to be kind and friendly to everyone. Everyone at Longs loved him.

To the Montello Family: My parents (Ernie and Anna Lomba) were good friends with Tom & his wife way back in the 1950s. Does Mrs. Montello remember them? I think my Dad met Tom at Zellerbach as they both worked there. Sadly, both of my parents are gone now, but I know they always talked about Tom and that's why I remembered his name. My deepest condolences on the passing of your husband, father and grandfather. I've attached a photo of my parents with Tom at a gathering.
