Vicki Higgins

Vicki Louise Higgins passed away very unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 5th. Vicki is survived by her son Patrick Joseph (Joe) Higgins, granddaughter Jasmine Makena Higgins, daughter-in-law Dawn Elizabeth Higgins, sisters Sandra Cumberland, Joanne Grimaldi, Diane Hill and Doni Jane Rodgers, Mother, Jane Savage, Stepmother Sandra Higgins and many other extended family members and wonderful friends. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas J. Higgins, her brother Thom P. Higgins and her sister Karan Grimaldi.
Vicki worked in dedicated service for the County of Santa Clara for 33 years, 26 of those at Valley Medical Center. She was Executive Secretary to the Director of Social Services Agency at the time of her retirement when in 2007 she offered to retire and become a full time Granny-Nanny for her granddaughter who was the bright light of her life. She loved educating her students each Sunday at Baha'i Faith School where she taught for the past five years. She was the Recording Secretary for the Baha'i Faith local spiritual assembly for over ten years and Secretary of the Baha'i Faith School committee. She also enjoyed volunteering in her granddaughter's classroom, buying personal gifts for loved ones at art/wine festivals and collecting all forms of artisan work including Wee Forest Folk mice sculptures. She had fun country line-dancing, swimming, and vacationing at Disneyland with her family. Vicki had a broad, eclectic taste in the types of music that she loved listening to and remained a learner and a voracious reader having read the Hobbit countless times, and Game of Thrones series several times. She was also known to devour shelves of biographies on historical figures while nibbling on chunks of chocolate or her favorite ice cream. She was always happy to secure a bargain being known to say "waste not-want not" and taught those around her many important life lessons. Another hobby of Vicki's was genealogy. The midnight oil she burned researching family historical data left a solid foundational roadmap for her descendents to follow. Those closest to Vicki feel she was at her pinnacle of happiness when she passed. Her warm smile, shining eyes, sense of humor and realistic view on life and our time here on Earth, will be missed by so many.
Grave site services will be held this Saturday, July 16th at Los Gatos Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M at 2255 Los Gatos–Almaden Road, San Jose, CA 95124. Please wear sensible shoes and consider bringing an umbrella for shade if appropriate. There will be a celebration of her life at 4:00 P.M.at the Bahai' Center of San Jose located at 945 Willow Street in San Jose, CA, 95125.

Vicki was a co-worker at Social Services Agency. She always had kind words of inspiration. When I heard I was deeply saddened. My condolences to the family, Vicki was one of a kind, she will be missed but never forgotten. RIP!

"Other Voices take up the Glad Shout" I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. And I stand and watch her, until at length she is only a ribbon of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, There! There, she is gone! But gone where? Gone only from my sight, that is all. For she is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight-to the place of destination. Her diminished size is only in me, not in her. And just at that moment when some at my side says, "There she is Gone!" There are other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "There! There She Comes!"

Joe, Dawn & Jasmine, I also have a heavy heart with the passing of Vicki. She loved you all so very much and a Mother's Love never disappears. We all love you and want you to know that we are here for you.
