Victoria Barklow Obituary

Victoria Lorraine Barklow (Magid)

Resident of Fremont

Born July 21, 1958 at Stanford Hospital to George and Jennie Magid, and died April 21, 2012 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View from lung cancer.

Victoria was married to Blair Barklow in Ashland, Oregon in 1983. She graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in Administration of Justice and worked in the Santa Clara County juvenile court educational system at the Foundry alternative school and as an OR officer at Elmwood while attending college. After graduating she was recruited to become a federal officer with the Federal Protective Service in San Francisco.

She moved from the justice system to accounting work in Silicon Valley and received her MBA from Golden Gate University in 1985. She entered the world of venture capital and finance, began working as a part-time controller for start-ups, specializing in "making little companies into big companies"; she was a founder and corporate controller at Palm Computing. She held her position at Palm through the transition to USRobotics and then 3COM. She was corporate controller and vice president of Finance at Matrix Memory, ZeroG Wireless, and Twin Creeks Technologies. At Twin Creeks she was also responsible for legal, human resources and governmental affairs working extensively with state and federal officials, governors, and members of congress representing the company and Silicon Valley. Her expertise in financing startup companies through venture, bank and governmental sources was unmatched. Vicki was well recognized and respected for her expertise in finance, and equally adored for her good nature and humor. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes to keep finances in order to ensure the health of the companies for which she served, and always administered her role with the utmost integrity and ethics. Beyond finance she served as a friend, mentor, confidante, and life advisor, sharing her experiences and insights with those around her. She was known for her vitality, directness, wonderful laugh, loyalty, and amazing love. She was a worker of miracles.

Vicki is survived by her mother Jennie, brothers Paul and Morgan Magid, husband Blair and children Nico and Julia. She is predeceased by her father George in 1975. Vicki enjoyed travel, fishing trips in remote Southeast Alaska, backcountry outings and tandem mountain biking.

Private family services have been held. A Celebration gathering will be held May 19 4PM at Toll House in Los Gatos. The family asks that contributions in Vicki's memory go to Hospice of the Valley, www.hospicevalley.org.

As she did with countless others, Vicky embraced my family and I as if we were her own. Vicky was not only our dearest friend but a sister to Diane and I, and a second mother to our children. She enriched our lives in many ways and made us want to be better people. May we all remember and honor her by conducting our lives every day according to the standard she set and in a way that will make her proud of us. We are grateful to Blair, Julia, Nico, Jenny, Morgan, Paul and the rest of Vicky's family for sharing Vicky with us. Her spirit will live with all of us forever.

Ah Victoria ~ I remember working along side you at Bell Industries back in the early 1980s, then you left and went to another company. Shortly afterwards you tipped me off to a job where you worked and soon I was sitting there working along side you again. We were so young. Such good times! Then you tipped me off to another job and off I went to bigger and better things, all thanks to you. I remember sitting in your kitchen drinking wine, eating smoked clams and writing out your wedding invitations. What you have done for others and accomplished in your life is outstanding. Thank you for the key role you played in mine all those years ago. I have thought of you often over the years and will continue. I can still pull the sound of your laugh from my memory and that's how I will remember you. Rest peacefully dear friend.

It is with great sadness to see old friends pass so young. It looks like Vicki made a huge mark in this world that will not be forgotten. Her big smile and flashing brown eyes are still in my memory from high school. With sympathy and prayers to the family for your great loss.
