Never go to the old neighborhood anymore and most of that is because we won't have that chance of seeing you walking the dog around the block.. memories of you are some of the coolest in my childhood. Lucky to have had you, Jen and Kathy in my life and you will be missed.

YOU LIT UP THE LIVES OF MANY. YOU CARRIED A HEAVY BURDEN BUT STILL PUSHED FORWARD. YOU WERE GIVING, KIND, LOVING, AND A FRIEND TO MANY. YOUR LIFE ON EARTH WAS CUT SHORT, BUT THAT WARM, LIT CANDLE STILL GLOWS, YOUR MEMORY LIVES ON. WE MISS YOU DEAR BILL. FROM YOUR SARATOGA HIGH SCHOOL "FAMILY"

William Cleveland was a special guy, in fact I noticed that the very day I met him. He'd gone to Saratoga High School and graduated in 1968 and was in my class. I remember him on campus back 43 years ago, but really didn't get to know him until he called up (after having seen that our Saratoga Class of 1968 was having it's 40th reunion.
Even though Bill did not know many of our reunion committee, we welcomed him for coming and even gave him a lot of work to take home! This was something he share with his daughter, making name tag photo buttons (extra large) from our yearbook senior class photos.
We welcomed the large buttons as our 60 year old eyeballs could actually read the person's name and see the photo clearly. Bill often bragged about his daughter and how smart she was and could do almost anything she set her mind to. What a lucky girl to have such a loving appreciative father!
Bill was able to spend about 2 hours at the Saratoga football game, as Saratoga High was celebrating its 50th birthday. Bill brought the buttons. Bill was also able to spend about 2 hours at the catered dinner and the next day about two hours at the B-B-Q at the Garrod Stables. We talked and I tried to get him to stay longer, but his limit was 2 hours.
I didn't realize that this would be the last time I'd see him. He fell into place with the reunion committee and we felt like we'd known him for years!
He was kind, had a wonderful sense of humor, brought pot luck dishes for the meetings, laughed and seemed to have a good time.
I spoke to him once more on the phone. He said it was a good day for him. I miss him as if I'd known him for years. He was a wonderful guy.
He may be gone but certainly not forgotten, by any means!
With Love, Nancy S. Girdner - Saratoga, California - Class of 1968 - Saratoga High School.
