Charles Hiti

Charles Hiti of Eveleth, passed away peacefully, Friday, August 23, 2024 at Edgewood Vista in Virginia.

Chuck was born February 11, 1933, in Genoa, the youngest of the twelve children of Frank and Annie (Hocevar) Hiti. He graduated in 1950 from the Gilbert High School, attended Eveleth Junior College and went on to graduate from UMD in 1954 with a teaching degree.

Chuck was an athlete participating in hockey, basketball, and football in high school. He played on UMD's Division 1 basketball teams of 1952 through 1954. He held the second highest scoring average record until 2016. He remains as the 4th highest.

Chuck taught for a few years in Two Harbors before moving to Eveleth. He taught math at Eveleth's high school from 1958-1988. He sang baritone in many school choirs, the Eveleth Male Chorus, the East Range Choral Society, Father Perkovich's Polka Mass and the Resurrection Church choir and its funeral choir.

When he retired Chuck enjoyed gardening and cooking-especially his porketta which is known as "Chucketta". He also enjoyed small engine repairs and playing smear with friends in his garage.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Lynn and children: Debbie (Mark) Snidarich, Jim (Terry) Hiti, Wendy (Jim) Rauzi, and John (Trina Ketola) Hiti; his grandchildren Eric (Brooklyn) Hiti, Carly Hiti, Anna Rauzi, Nicole Hiti, Dylan Hiti, his sister-in-law Millie Hiti, and many nephews and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Joseph, Frank, John, Ann, Tony, Ludwig, Mary Morrow, Leo, Louis, William, and Frances Ambrozich.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 29 at 10 a.m. at Eveleth's Resurrection Church with the funeral mass at 11 a.m. Father David Forsman will officiate. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
