Christine Hellyer Obituary

Christine Frances Hellyer

Christine Frances Hellyer, 67, of Northfield, Minn., suddenly passed of natural causes on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

Christine was born on October 6, 1958, to Frances (Lopac) and Norman Hellyer.

Christine graduated from Mt. Iron High School in 1976 and was accepted to continue her education at UM Duluth graduating in 1980 with a BA in teaching. A piece of her jewelry is in the Tweed Museum.

In 1981 she married Larry Coyne and they initially made their home in Texas. They moved to St Thomas in 1987 due to their combined enjoyment of scuba diving. She later became a Master Dive instructor and traveled the world on diving expeditions. After their divorce, Chris moved to Georgia where she continued to teach middle and high school art until her retirement in 2020. She was an officer of the Georgia Association of Educators and also returned to school while teaching to get her Doctorate from UGA and received her PhD presenting her Thesis on the Hopi Indian Jewelry.

Finally in 2023 she was talked into moving back to MN by her wonderful friend of 63 years, Mary Jo (Lomsak) Andrejeski.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Lovingly remembered by brother Harvey (Peggy) Hellyer, niece Karen Hellyer (Johnny Erickson), nephew James (Alison) Hellyer, great niece Elizabeth Hellyer and sister Cindy (Tom) Devich, nephew Brandt Devich (Tiffany and David), and nephew Tyler Devich (Jesse Ochoa).

A special thank you to Mary Jo Andrejeski for all of her friendship and her care and support.

A gathering will be held at the Buhl Our Lady of the Sacred Heart church on Saturday, October 25, at 12:30 p.m. and the services at 1:00 p.m. with coffee 'an after the service.
