Dale Gunter Obituary
After flying past his goal to reach 90, Dale Gunter of Chisholm, Minn., let go of the tow rope of life and fell into God's arms on October 2, 2025. Dale was an all seasons worshipper of God's creation. He shared his passion for the outdoors by teaching his children to water ski, cut wood, hunt, and camp. Even into his 88th year you could find him cutting wood with Stan, checking the blueberry patches, and walking miles in Montana and Minnesota deer hunting. When he wasn't outside, you could find him cheering on the Packers, playing a game of Hand and Foot and Cribbage, or watching Wheel of Fortune. In his working years he was employed by the drill plant in Chisholm, MNDNR, and Eveleth Taconite. He was shocked that he was retired 28 years and loved winters in Arizona with Katy, week long trips with the grandkids, many trips to Hawaii along with so many hunting trips, family gatherings in Montana, and visits with friends.
He was the second of five children born in Litchfield, Minn., to Delmar and Caroline Gunter on May 14, 1935. Married to Katy Benson on April 25, 1959. Their young family spent many years in St.Paul before moving to Chisholm in 1972.
He was preceded in death by wife, Katy and son, Paul, and brothers Jesse, Dick, and Tommy.
Survived by sister Lucy (Tom), Paul's wife Samphon, children Mark (Karen), Gale (Mark), and Carol (Todd); grandchildren Autumn, Courtney, Oliver, Anthony, Elliot, Kennedy, Harrison; great grandchildren Saddie, Sylvia, Sailor, Izzy, Audrey, and Callum. The family is in deep gratitude for the compassionate care that the entire Fairview hospice team and the care team at Heritage Manor shared with Dale in his final weeks.
A memorial open house will be held at Jim's Bar in Chisholm from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
