Deborah Jean Oja
Deborah Jean Oja died unexpectedly on November 3, 2024, in Virginia, Minn.
She was born in Eveleth, Minn., on July 24, 1963, to Wilmar "Oj" and Marlene (Lapatka) Oja. She attended school at the Range Center in Chisholm, and graduated from Virginia Secondary School. She began working at the East Range Day Activity Center following high school, and had worked there for over 41 years. She was an active member of the area Special Olympic Bowling, and Track and Field Teams for many years. She resided in Virginia at DRCC Northside with roommates who became her friends and family. Debbie enjoyed watching the MN Vikings, MN Twins, and other sporting events. She also enjoyed spending time visiting with family and friends.
Debbie is survived by her mother; brother, Jeff (Jill) Oja; sister-in-law, Wendi Oja; aunt and uncle, Judy and Rich Lapatka; aunt, Judy Lapatka; nephews and niece, James Jr. (Lisa) and Amanda, Paxton, Austin, and Asher; and numerous cousins and extended family.
Debbie was preceded in death by her father; brother, James "Jim"; grandparents, Frank and Anne Lapatka and Eino and Lillian Oja; uncle, Frank Lapatka; and aunt and uncle, Karen and Phil Oja.
The family thanks the past and present staff at DRCC Northside for the care and support Debbie received that enabled her to live a quality life for many years. Debbie will be greatly missed.
No formal service is being held. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Range Funeral Home in Virginia on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a celebration of Debbie's life.
