Floyd Gorman Obituary

Floyd Earl Gorman

Floyd Earl Gorman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and dear friend, passed away peacefully with his devoted wife of 58 years by his side on September 27, 2025, at the age of 80 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn.

Floyd was born on July 21, 1945, to Earl and Gladys (Isensee) Gorman in Hibbing, Minn. He attended Hibbing Schools and enrolled in the US Army in February of 1966, serving 3 years. He married Barbara Ann Barach on July 1, 1967. They resided in Blaine for 5 years and returned to the Range where he lived in Chisholm for 44 years, and the last 4 years at Realife South in Hibbing. He was employed by NW Bell, currently CenturyLink, in February 1970, retiring in May 2001.

In retirement, he had time for his creative side in rock hunting, painting, writing poetry, woodworking, and crafting beautiful walking sticks-later adding wood-burning designs to create truly unique works of art. Floyd loved music from old-time gospel to classic rock, folk, and blues. He loved to share his music with others and blast it loud on good speakers.

He cherished his wife and came alive when surrounded by family, and was never happier than during those moments. His life was a testament to resilience. He was proud of his sobriety date, 7/29/1978, and he credited his recovery, the AA program, and accepting Jesus as his Savior with changing his life. His love for Jesus was deep and unwavering. Despite his medical struggles, he often reminded others to "count it all joy." He was a man of deep faith who spent time in the Word daily and spoke often about being ready to meet the Lord.

Floyd loved playing cards with his lifelong friends and family. A recent trip to Italy brought him great joy and beauty, even as his body was failing him. He delighted in watching his daughters play volleyball and basketball, and his son in track. Whether they were playing or coaching, he rarely missed a competition.

Floyd was a kid at heart, known for entertaining children with his antics-whether singing, dancing, jumping fully clothed into a kiddie pool, or speaking in his Donald Duck voice. He could fix anything around the house and was always ready to lend a hand.

Floyd was preceded in death by his father Earl, mother Gladys, sister and brother-in-law Lila and Jerome Wiener, brother William (Bill), sister-in-law Julie Barach, and niece Chenda Madich.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his son Craig, Eden Prairie, daughters Celeste, Prior Lake, and Elaina, Duluth, and his cherished granddaughter Jada, Edina. He also leaves behind his loving sisters Elaine Gorman, Virginia, Debby Graven, Virginia and Sandra Belche, Embarrass; his sisters and brothers-in-law Georgia (George) Andria, Scottsdale, Joe (Anita) Barach, Colorado Springs and Gail Stenger, Eden Prairie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their children, who brought so much joy and into his life.

Floyd Gorman will be remembered for his deep love for his wife, family, great storytelling, his strength and humor, resilience, creativity, and his unwavering faith in God. He leaves a humble legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Essentia Hospital and Solvay Hospice House for their many kindnesses and generous care for Floyd in his last days.

A Memorial Service will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at the Dougherty Funeral Home of Hibbing, Minn. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, and Pastor Terry Tilton will officiate the service. A private interment will take place at a later date at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing, Minn.
