Gary LaFreniere Obituary

Gary James LaFreniere

Gary James LaFreniere, 65, of Hoyt Lakes passed away on June 23,2025 at the Solvay Hospice Home in Duluth surrounded by family.

Gary was born December 9, 1959 in Hibbing,MN to James and Carol LaFreniere. He was a graduate of Aurora-Hoyt Lakes High School. He started working for Erie Mining Company in 1978 but after the company had lay-offs, Gary started working in construction in California, Colorado, Arizona, Florida and then lastly in Hoyt Lakes. He was a master of all skills.

Gary enjoyed playing cards especially gin, fishing, listening to music, specifically country western music.

Gary's legacy is one of faith, service and love. Be still, watch, look, and listen! Slow down, enjoy the moments in front of us. Pray and read your Bible, it holds power and the truth! These are the steady words of wisdom often given to his loved ones. He walked in blind and unconditional faith for the Lord. His trials and how he fearlessly challenged them were a testimony of his true faith and miraculous triumphs he would endure even until last breath. Every twist and turn was met with an unbelievable revelation outcome of strength and faith. He continuously defied all odds and he was a walking testimony. His last written words to be shared with all was "We all need to thank Jesus for the cross. We don't need to stay like this! Keep your family focused on the Lord!"

Survivors include: Daughter - Anna Scollard; Son - Josh (Hailey Pierce) LaFreniere. Sisters - Debbie (Steve) Dorn, Diane (Jon) Seabrook. Brother - Rick (Lori) LaFreniere. 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, with 2 more on the way. Numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Laura Adams, and his parents, Jim and Carol Lafreniere.

Celebration of life will be on Tuesday, July 1st at the First Baptist Church in Aurora with Pastor John Jacquart officiating. Visitation will be at 10, service at 11 with luncheon to follow.

Gary's family would like to give a BIG THANK YOU to Solvay Hospice Home and East Range Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care he received and the assistance given to his family!!
