Richard Smoltz Obituary

Richard John Smoltz

Richard John Smoltz, 82, of Chisholm, died Monday, October 9, 2023, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.

He was born May 29, 1941, in Chisholm, Minn., to Frank and Virginia (Corradi) Smoltz. He was a U. S. Army veteran and later worked as a Police Officer for the City of Chisholm. Richard was united in marriage on October 23, 1965, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Barbara (Schmidt) Smoltz. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, polka music and spending time with family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife Barbara, children: Deb (Smoltz) Sanders, Jim Smoltz (Kim) Grandchildren: Zack Sanders, Shelby Sanders and Madison Smoltz; siblings: Barbara (Smoltz) Hukka (Gary). He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Virgina Smoltz.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Rupp Funeral Home & Cremation Service Chapel, Chisholm. Inurnment will be in Chisholm Cemetery at a later date.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Bimbo's Octagon at Side Lake from noon to 3 following the Memorial Gathering.
