Scott Omersa Obituary

Scott John Omersa

Scott John Omersa, 62, of Gilbert died of natural causes at his home on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Scott was born May 12, 1963, to Tony and Kathy (Spehar) Omersa. The eldest of three, he was followed by sisters Lori 2 years later and Tracy 8 years after that. As a child, he would often excitedly run up the alley to visit his grandma and grandpa Omersa. It was always a delight for them and his aunts who were frequently visiting.

He was very proud of being a Gilbert Buccaneer and truly enjoyed and excelled in cross country & track in his high school years. On a Friday night in November 1979, he took a snowball to the head, knocking off his eyeglasses in front of the Ziemer Moeglein Funeral Home. It was thrown by Rosanne who soon after became his high school sweetheart. Scott married Rosanne Biondich on December 15, 1984, in Gilbert. They had two children, Shane and Casey.

In 1981, he graduated from Gilbert High School, and in 1983, he received a law enforcement degree from Hibbing AVTI. In the summer of 1984, while seeking employment as a police officer and working part-time at Shusterich's, his father persuaded him to attend a taxidermy program in Nisswa. Finding enjoyment in doing the work, Scott decided to start his taxidermy business, "Omersa Taxidermy." He served for 24 years as a member of the Gilbert Volunteer Fire Department, including being chief for 6 years. He received his MN EMT Certification in 2006 and served the community of Gilbert as a first responder for several years. During late night and early morning calls, he assisted the Ziemer-Moeglein-Shatava Funeral Home. After more than 35 years, he gradually ended his taxidermy business to try other work and was currently running the laundry department at Essentia Health in Virginia, where he had great pride in supplying hospital staff with materials they needed to do their jobs. Scott was a very hard worker, dependable, always on time, and quick to help with many things. Scott enjoyed fishing, hunting bear, birds & deer near Myrtle Lake for many years, and later in rural Gilbert with his son, Casey. His friendship with Todd Devich (Devo) led him to many fun adventures like playing for Devo's Sandbar softball team, curling, darts, golf, weekends following NASCAR races, trips to Wild/Vikings games, a Carnival Cruise, and to Jamaica with Todd & Rachel. The Ranger Open golf tournament was something he looked forward to every year. He also enjoyed attending Shane and Casey's sports events and most recently, grandson Clay's. Cooking was a hobby that he always loved & was very good at. He and Mike Leoni made walnut potica in Home Ec class, and he cooked and served meals for big groups of friends in his living room, much like a restaurant. He was proud to be awarded runner up in the amateur division of St. Michael's Foundation 2012 Chili Cook Off. Watching the Food Network and trying out new recipes from his Cuisine magazine were some of his favorite things to do. He had a love for NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr. #3 & Dale Jr. #8, and he attended several races. Scott spent time making pine-cone wreaths, loved holiday decorating, and had an intense liking for flamingos. Clay, Luna, & Remy brought him so much joy as did fur babies Doc, Windsor, & Daisy.

He is survived by his wife, Rosanne; sons: Shane and Casey (Megan) Omersa; grandson. Clay and granddaughter. Luna; grand-puppy Remy, sisters: Lori (Earl) Fitzgerald and Tracy (Kurt) Gulbranson; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law: Joe & Kathy Biondich, Steve & Pam Biondich, aunts: Arlene Dicklich and Valerie Snyder, nieces, nephews & cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Tony and Kathy Omersa; mother & father-in-law: John and Marie Biondich, brothers-in-law: Jason Sickel and Paul Biondich.
