William Hugo Pietila
William Hugo Pietila, age 91, longtime resident of Hibbing, Minn., died Monday, February 10, 2025, at Heritage Manor in Chisholm.
He was born September 24, 1933, in Hibbing, the son of William and Emily (Narva) Pietila. Bill was a graduate of Hibbing High School. Bill was united in marriage to Lloydine Stanaway on May 17, 1958, in Eveleth, Minn. A Veteran of the US Marines, Bill served during the Korean War.
Bill worked as a surveyor for the State of MN, Hibbing Taconite, JLX, and RLK. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and the VFW Post 8510. He was a Pee-Wee Hockey Coach for the Jefferson team, and was director of Midget Hockey. He was a Cub Scout Leader, and enjoyed crosswords.
Bill is survived by his wife: Lloydine; sons: William Pietila of Hibbing, James Pietila of Grand Rapids, Minn., and Edward Pietila of Hibbing; sister: Esther Olson of San Antonio, Texas; former daughter-in-law: Bonnie Furin of Hibbing; granddaughters: Nicole (James) Maki, and Danya Pietila; great-grandchildren: Kaiden Pietila and Cullan Maki; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: sister: Eleanor; brother-in-law: Jim Olson; nephew: Danny Olson; and numerous extended family members.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Friday, February 14, 2025, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kevin Olson will officiate. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Fairview Hospice, St. Jude’s Children's Hospitals, or the Shriner's Hospitals.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Fairview Hospice and Heritage Manor for the care they extended to Bill.
