Albert Post Obituary

Albert Frank Post Sr.
1925 - 2018
Albert was born 11/16/1925 in New London, Connecticut to Ernest Post and Grace E. Pheleps. He grew up in Groten and New London, CT. When he was eleven he went into state care until he was 16. At that time he ran away from foster care and went to live with his father for a short time. At age 17 ½ he entered the Navy.
He was in the Navy for a little over 2 years. While in the navy he went to Midway where he was assigned to the sub USS POGY. He liked serving on the sub as it was a good life and he never had to come face to face with the enemy. He always said that if he was in the Army he would have been killed because he would have hesitated to pull the trigger. The Pogy had 10 war patroles while in the So. Pacific but Al was on the last two. One was outside Tokyo Bay and the other was in the Sea of Japan. He served as a qualified sub mariner.
He held several jobs until he went to work for Gen Dynamics in 1960. He was there for 28 years. During that time he was also a Cub Scout leader for 25 years. He was a volunteer for Toys for Tots for 17 years, was vice president of the Montville Sr. Center for 7 years and President of the center for 7 years.
When Al returned from the service he lived in New York. While there, he married Mary Jane Modica. They had two children and were divorced in 1953. In 1955 he married June Ursprung in Connecticut. They had three children and divorced in 1999.
Al and Betty met on the computer doing genealogy in 2001. In 2006 he moved to Emmett and they were married in 2014.
After Al moved to Emmett, he called bingo at the Senior Center and was on the board for 3 years. His hobby was painting and he kept busy doing that. There are several people in the area that have the gnomes he painted.
Al is survived by three children, Albert, Jr., Sandra and Elizabeth and by his sister, Marion. He is also survived by four grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, two brothers, four sisters and a grandson.
We would like to thank Apple Valley Assisted Living and Heart 'n Home Hospice for the loving care they gave Albert in his last years.
Since Al will be cremated, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, please make donation either to VFW Post 4900 or to the Emmett Senior Center.
Cremation is in the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
