Daniel Chadwick Obituary

Emmett - Today's world isn't as bright a place since Daniel Gail Chadwick passed away April 23, 2024 enveloped in love.

Dan, Danny, Daniel, Dad, Poppo and Pops was a gentle man - kind in spirit, filled with integrity but truly a man who loved others. He in turn was surrounded by love: From his family, Michele Chadwick, Trevor and Amber Chadwick, Jamie and John Sullivan, Jacob and Katie Sherrer, and Noah and Rosi Sherrer. From his many grandchildren, Torrie, Hunter and Camden Chadwick; Reagan & Anthony Lowman; Olivia, Hatcher and Melanie Sherrer; Sophie and soon to be born Isabella Sherrer, and Alicia Valdez. From his great grandchildren, Kendall, Judson, Wrenlee and Saylor Lowman; Kaleia & Meadow Chadwick; Alexander Ceja and Cali Smart. From his sister Judy Thompson, brother Fred Elliott, in-laws Gerald & Darcy Mitchell, and more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends than there are stars in the sky. He was preceded in death by his parents Walt & Millie and grandson Brady. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his family, babies, and his buddies.

Danny was born January 25, 1951 in Emmett and lived an idyllic childhood filled with adventure, fun and friends. Unfortunately, this was also when he became a Downwinder. Upon graduation, he briefly attended college before the Air Force came calling. It was at this time he married Maureen Murphy. Staff Sergeant Chadwick served during the Cold War as a linguist, learning Serbo-Croatian, and worked with the NSA and Intelligence community protecting our country. He was awarded an Air Medal among his other numerous commendations. After serving our country honorably, he attended the University of Idaho and obtained his law degree which he used up until his passing. He served as a deputy prosecutor, deputy attorney general, city attorney and the Executive Director of the Idaho Association of Counties.

It was later in his life that he married Michele Sherrer, which added a dimension to his world that no one expected. Their love was beyond measure, special and envied by those who witnessed it. They were known as root beer floats--you cannot have one without the other. They drank in their time together, never wanting to miss a moment. They challenged each other intellectually and were always thinking, planning, and trying to make the world a better place. In addition to loving each other, they shared a love of Idaho, history, travel, and good governance. Danny became part of Michele's family as she did in his.

While Danny was incredibly accomplished in everything he did, those honors pale in comparison to the relationships he created and honored. He is known as a dear friend and colleague. He drew people he worked with into his heart, and staff members frequently kept in close contact with him even after they left his employment. This has become even more evident during his brief illness. It was inconceivable to not have him in your corner.

Danny believed in the goodness of others, and especially in the strength and competence of women. He was an advocate for treating all equally and encouraged leadership roles for those who were frequently overlooked. He was rarely disappointed.

We will all miss his mischievous giggles, laugh/snorts, sugar hiccups, sly grins, and his incredibly quick wit. He was a brilliant man. Danny's last wishes were for us to take care of his family, be kind to each other, and live by Matthew 5:1-12 and strive for Galatians 5:22. A celebration of Danny's life will be held May 25, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Life Spring Church, 174 N Star Road, Star, ID. A private interment at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his honor to Idaho Public Television or the Emmett Friendship Coalition's food bank.

I had the good fortune of working with Dan at the Attorney General's Office. Dan always truly loved life and so enjoyed the people around him. He was like sunshine and it was always a joy to spend time with him. He made all of our lives richer and will be greatly missed.

Dan was a truly a gentleman! He was smart, articulate, witty, kind, generous, and he was honorable. He paid me the highest complement every time we met. He would say "hello friend". I will forever miss Dan and will always treasure his friendship.

I worked for Dan in the AG´s office straight out of law school. He was one of the kindest, most inspiring people I had ever worked with, and remained a friend throughout the years. It was pure joy to see the light his love for Michele brought to both their lives. He will be missed by everyone who knew him and I am saddened by his passing. Laurel Heacock
