Gladys Ruth Hanson

Gladys Ruth Hanson, 86, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away Aug. 9, 2011, peacefully in her home at Apple Valley.
Gladys was the fourth of five children born to Ebb and Lula Biggers on Sept. 6, 1924, at home in Brownlee, Idaho. At age 16, she won the title of "Queen of the Boise County Fair." After meeting Lewis "Mike" Edward Hanson at a community dance they married on Oct. 27, 1944, in Boise, Idaho. They made a life together for 56 years in Garden Valley, Brownlee, Horseshoe Bend, Idaho and finally settled down in Emmett in 1969. To this marriage there were five children born.
Outside of being a homemaker and mother, she worked at Stokley Van Camps cannery, Obermeyer Orchards, Diamond Fruit Packing Shed and Emmett Valley Fruits.
The greatest joy in her life was cooking for the summer hay crews and taking care of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the occasional camping trips with her son, Rod and his family, to Cascade and Bear Valley, Idaho.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Elburn and Shorty Biggers; and nephew, David Hanson.
Gladys is survived by her two sisters, Fern Hanson of Boise formerly of Horseshoe Bend and Bonnie Charters of Emmett; five children, Nancy (Fred) Pattee of New Mexico, Michael (Lory) Hanson of Middleton, Idaho, Rodney (Mary Ann) Hanson of Emmett, Karen Gillespie of Emmett and Edward Hanson of Boise; grandchildren: Felix, Blaine, Bryan, Rachel, Michele and Brad; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services under the direction of the Potter Funeral Chapel will be held at the Pioneer Cemetery in Horseshoe Bend on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at 10 a.m. A viewing was held Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett.
