Grace Scofield Obituary
Emmett - Grace Scofield passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024 in Emmett, Idaho at Apple Valley Assisted Living.
Grace Louise (Smith) Scofield was born September 16, 1922, to Sam and Lenora Smith. She was born in Shoshone, Idaho and was raised with her four siblings in many parts of the state. Over the years, the family lived in Arling, now under Cascade Reservoir, Burgdorf, where she learned to swim in the Burgdorf Hot Springs swimming pool, Star, and Payette. When World War II broke out, her whole family moved to Tacoma, Washington where she worked in the shipyards on an aircraft carrier.
After the war she went on a blind date with Paul Herrick Scofield who became her lifetime partner. They married on December 23, 1945. They were married for fifty-five years until Paul's death in 2000. They had two sons: Kerry and Clay whom they raised in Boise. She also helped raise her grandchildren, especially Dennis and David.
God was the center of her life. She was raised in the church and lived her faith throughout her life. She taught Sunday school and played the piano for church services. She trusted Jesus to take her through the most challenging of times.
She has lived her last ten years at Apple Valley Residence and considered it her home. She loved making new people feel welcome, playing the piano, sharing her wonderful smile, and praying for anyone who had the need whether they knew it or not. The staff and residents at Apple Valley were family to her. Carla, her roommate for many years, was very special to her, always watching out for Mom and reminding her of what she could not remember.
She was preceded in death by her son Kerry and his wife Carol; her husband Paul; and two grandchildren, Scott Downard and David Scofield. She is survived by her son Clay and his wife Margie (Goslin); her grandchildren and their spouses, Paul and Hilary Scofield, Joseph and Nikky Scofield, Rebecca Scofield and John Carlsen, Dennis and Ellen Scofield, Terry Downard; ten great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
As her family we are grateful for the loving care that she received from the staff and residents of Apple Valley and in her waning days from the staff of Canyon Home Health and Hospice.
We were blessed to have Grace in our lives for 101 years and 8 months. Her faith, her smiles, and her love made us all better people. She will be missed.
Mom loved flowers but was very allergic, so she kept her flowers outside. In keeping with that, plant a flower in your garden, instead of bringing or sending flowers. Donations should be sent to your church or an assisted living facility in her name.
A memorial service will be held at Apple Valley Residence in Emmett on June 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Arrangements are under the care of the Potter Funeral Chapel.
