Emmett - "I'm so happy, I get to go see Jesus!" were some of Mary's last words. She got to go see Jesus on June 16, 2025. Mary's whole life was lived glorifying her Savior for others to see.
Mary was born in Yoncalla, Oregon on April 1, 1934, to William and Ruby Morris, the second of their 4 children, and the first-born daughter. Mary's family moved to Toppenish, Washington when she was 7 years old. She was a hard worker, helping out at her parents' cafe, and graduating in the top of her class at Toppenish High School. "Top Hi" was where she met the wonderful man with whom she would spend 72 years, Herman Winberry. He says she could have had her pick of dozens of guys, but luckily for him, he was the one! They moved to Texas, where Herman was in basic training.
Herman and Mary were stationed in Tacoma, Washington, and stayed there after he left the Air Force. There they had 4 children: Ricki Jo, Douglas Alan, Jeffrey Scott, and Dina Leigh. She was the most loving, generous, talented, fun-to-be-with mom any kid could ask for. She loved camping with her family and taking trips with Herman. In 1995 they moved to Emmett, Idaho, just before she retired as a bookkeeper at Central Assembly in Boise.
Mary was always active serving Jesus. She served in women's ministries and taught Sunday School and VBS. She left her family a beautiful legacy and never failed to pray for them daily.
Mary was so incredibly talented. She painted landscapes and watercolors, did wood carving, sewing, embroidery, and beautiful tole painting. (She once tole-painted all of her kitchen cupboards). We used to joke "don't stand still too long, Mom will paint you!" She was an extraordinary baker and would use her famous cinnamon rolls to "bribe" her grandkids to do chores. Then, when Mary discovered the joy she got from quilting, that was it. Over the years she has pieced and appliqued dozens of breath-takingly beautiful quilts, table runners, and wall hangings.
Mary is survived by her husband, Herman; brother, Roy Morris; children, Ricki (Mike) Carr, Douglas Winberry, Jeffrey (Skye) Winberry, and Dina (Jim) Zimmerman; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, all of them will swear they were her favorite.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Eagle Christian Church, 100 Short Rd, Eagle, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Thousand Hills Foundation in memory of Mary.
