Norvil Elliott Obituary

Norvil R. Elliott
November 20, 1933 - March 13, 2020
Norvil Ray Elliott, 86, born November 20, 1933, passed away peacefully early in the morning on March 13, 2020, with his wife and loved ones at his side.
Norvil was born and raised in Weiser, Idaho, to Arthur Horatio and Leola Clair Elliott. He graduated from Weiser High School in 1951 and later acquired his Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Utah State University. He was married to his sweetheart Beverly Bingham on October 6, 1952, and sealed for time and eternity in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Norvil and Beverly moved back to Emmett, Idaho, where they raised their four children on the Plaza Ranch running a fruit and dairy business. Many years of hard work and play made for wonderful memories with both children and grandchildren alike. During this time, Norvil was active and well known in the community: he was a member of the Lion's Club, was involved with the Gem Fruit Packing Company, served as a director on the board of the Diamond Fruit Grower Company in Hood River, Oregon, served a term as the president of the Idaho Fruit Growers' Association, and served 10 years as a Gem County Commissioner (where he considered one of his best accomplishments being involved with the planning and creation of the Emmett Island Sports Complex). He also loved working with the youth, spending many years helping to support and coach youth baseball teams. Norvil was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many capacities, and in 2007 Norvil and Beverly served 2 years in the Suva Fiji Mission, working with the native people of the Vanuatu islands.
Norvil is survived by his beloved wife Beverly, son Bryan (Joanne) Elliott, daughter Brenda (Mike) Hannan, son Korth (Joan) Elliott, daughter Barbara (Tom) Weissenbuehler, 15 grandchildren (and spouses), and 23 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Merlin.
All services will be held at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, Idaho. There will be a viewing Friday, March 20, 2020, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., with an additional viewing immediately preceding from 9:00-9:45 a.m. Burial will follow at the Emmett Cemetery.

Norvil was my big brother.Even though he was 19 years older then me,we were bonded by the Elliott "spirit of love and determination".His personality reminded me a lot of our dad. He was loving and kind to me, his dad, my mom, sister and brothers. He always made sure he brought us boxes of fruit to eat. He was kind and thoughtful to everyone. Our dad was never worked in the winter, because he was a carpenter, money was tight. Norvil and Bev always made sure all of us at Christmas, had a present from them under the tree. I appreciated that more than they will ever know. We had many nice dinners together, sometimes at our house and sometimes at theirs, usually on Sundays. He had to make it back before dark so he could milk the cows. He was no stranger to hard work, a value taught by our father. Norvil would bring me over in the summer, so I could ride the Shetland pony and have some fun on the ranch with my nieces and nephews. Every time Norvil and I got together we would tell stories, which usually involved our younger years with our dad (a character), we would laugh as we told them. The last few years we enjoyed working together on our family genealogy. We exchanged a lot of pictures and information. He was pleased that he had found so much about our family. He told me a guy said our family in Scotland were labeled as "sheep robbers"(ha,ha). We got a kick out of that one. Always enjoyed laughing together. We were always on the same Elliott wave length. Last year we had a nice visit and lunch together. He told me then he was having a hard time remembering some things and getting tired. His job here on earth is done and what a blessing he was to his family and so many people. He was ready to be with our savior. I will miss him and will always have a special place in my heart for him, as my big brother. I am sad to see him leave, but I know he is having a joyous reunion with our dad, brother, his mom and our lord and savior Jesus Christ. I will be seeing you soon and we can once again laugh and tell our stories. Love, your little sister, Sharlett Elliott Leonard

Our hearts are saddened by this loss of our dear friend. We arrived at Plaza Ranch 3.5 years ago, and we feel honored to have shared this years of friendship with Norvil and Beverly. Norvil was a kind man and he loved to talk about the farm when his children were small. We will miss him. The Ranch seems awfully lonely without him. May you rest in God's arms.

As far as I can remember Norvil and Beverly have been an active part of my life. They were our home teachers for many of my early years and we would always get a box of oranges for Christmas, or be invited to get fruit from his orchard. I can remember leaning out the car windows driving down his long dirt road driveway and picking apples off the trees. I can recall getting milk from the dairy and I even recall an Easter that I spent on the farm with them and the family. Norvil was always serving others whether it was his neighbor, his church family, his community etc. He was always there with a smile and teasing manner. I will miss his sparkle in his eyes and smile anytime I saw him. I am glad he is not suffering any longer and he has been reunited with his Lord and Savior. Thank you for being a great example to me and all those who knew you. Till we meet again my friend.

For as long as I can remember Norvil and Beverly have been in my life somehow. I can remember hanging out the car windows picking apples off the trees when we would go to see him or go get milk when we were kids. I remember he was our home teacher for years and he always had a joke or was teasing me. Norvil always was serving others and gave unselfishly all his life. I recall the many boxes of oranges he brought every Christmas. He was like a fill in grand parent since my grandparents were far away. I am so grateful for having been blessed so much by Brother Elliott. He truly was a servant of the Lord and he is free from his earthly pains. I was so sad the last time I saw him because he didn't know who I was because of his illness. I hope that sparkle is back in his eyes and smile. Till we meet again my friend.
