Phyllis Rekow Obituary

Phyllis Orton Rekow, 83, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 30, 2009. Phyllis was born in North Ogden, Utah, on March 22, 1926, the sixth of nine children.
In her early years she moved with her family to Porterville, Utah, where life taught her to work hard and cherish family. Her family relocated to Emmett, Idaho, in 1941 where she met Alvin H. (Hank) Rekow who would, in short order, sweep her off her feet. They were married in 1943 and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1950. When Hank went to the service, Phyllis moved to Portland to live with her parents where she worked in the shipyards. They returned to Emmett after the war ended.
Phyllis worked hard over the years, raising her family and milked more cows than she cared to count. She worked for 22 years at the Emmett Care Center as a dietary manager, never missing a day of work. She decided this was much better than milking cows. She loved to cook, garden and can, just last year putting up well over 100 quarts.
Phyllis was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in several positions in the church over the years and continued to do so up until the time of her death. In addition to her generous nature and giving heart, she will be remembered for her ever cheerful and infectious laugh.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Hank; two brothers; three sisters; and one grandson, Andy Hansen.
She is survived by her loving family, Julianne (Charles) Peterson, Emmett; Linda (George) Hansen, Battle Mountain, Nev.; Jerry (Lizabeth) Rekow, Emmett; RaNae (Rudy) Bybee, Boise, Idaho; Dennis Rekow, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mark (Kellie) Rekow, Emmett; and 20 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
A viewing was held Tuesday, June 2, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmett LDS Stake Center.
