Thomas Bandy Obituary

Emmett - Thomas Joseph Bandy, 79, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2021, in Boise following injuries sustained during a fall.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Emmett Stake Center in Emmett, Idaho. Interment will follow in the Sweet Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Potter Funeral Chapel in Emmett, and one hour prior to services at the Church on Tuesday.

Born January 21,1942 in Twin Falls, Idaho, to Saphronia and Paul Bandy, Tom is survived by his wife, Linda Conklin; his siblings Paula DeJoshua and Brad Bandy (Bonnie); his four children Sherrie Feist (Randy), Paul Kindall (Lauren), Bojan Bandy Goldstein (Ben), and Ben Bandy; three stepchildren Scott Conklin (Nicole), Emily Graves (Curtis) and Brad Stone (Jamie); 20 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Tom was a man of many talents, interests and passions and that's visible throughout his life, his education and career path. He wasn't afraid to try something new or change careers. He instilled a strong work ethic and appreciation for adventure in his children and those around him.

This work ethic was clear as a child who milked the family cows morning and night. He ensured his own access to spending money by also milking his own cows daily. After high school, he went to BYU on a football scholarship. He played center but injured his knee during his first year. His next step was to serve an LDS mission to Japan. This was a calling that he would share and reminisce about often in life.

After returning from his mission, he went to Rexburg and attended Ricks College. While there, he played the bass in the orchestra and various dance bands. He was on the rodeo team and won several silver buckles in steer roping and steer wrestling. After graduating from Ricks, he went to Utah State where he got a bachelor's degree in education with an emphasis in industrial education.

After that, he taught for several years at West Junior High in Boise. During this time, he married Judy Moss with whom he had two children, Sherrie and Paul. He took a break from teaching to start a construction business and built several homes in the Boise area. He then started a similar business in Whidbey Island, Washington.

Following his time in Washington, Tom returned to teaching in Burley, Idaho. While there, his industrial education class at Burley High School built a new building for the school administration. It was also during this time he married Kym Ravsten with whom he would have two children, Bo and Ben.

Always ready for another adventure, he moved to England and taught school for the US Department of Defense. While there, he enjoyed coaching sports and chaperoning high school field trips.

Returning to the United States, he would go on to do construction, remodeling and cabinetry in Long Beach, California and Pocatello, Idaho before earning a masters in construction management at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado and teaching at the university in Pueblo, Colorado. Before retiring to Idaho, he moved to Florida where he sold software to the construction industry.

On January 8, 2011, he married the love of his life, Linda Conklin. He was blessed to enjoy the love of Linda, her children and grandchildren and be part of the Emmett community.

Tom had many interests and hobbies over the years. These included glass blowing, photography, fishing, hunting, camping, hot air balloons, skiing, wood working, pottery and of course home improvement projects. More than anything he loved watching and hearing about his children and grandchildren and their pursuits including soccer, volleyball, football, wrestling, rodeo, hockey, theater, pumpkin farming, choir, skiing, and music.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the prostate cancer foundation in honor of his brother, Brad Bandy.
