Wenona Coombs Obituary

Emmett - Our beloved mother, Wenona Vickery Jensen Coombs, passed away in Emmett, Idaho at age 90 on February 8, 2025. She was born at home on Little Rock Road, near Emmett, Idaho on January 8, 1935, to George Melvin and Helen Whiteley Vickery. The second of six children, she later moved with her family to a farm in Sand Hollow. She attended school first at the little white school in Letha, then attended Lower Mesa, Hanna, and graduated from Emmett High School in 1952. She was an honor student, skipping a grade in school, and loved subjects such as Choir, Debate, and Home Economics. She was active in the Future Homemakers of America club, serving as local chapter president, District President, and State Secretary. She worked in the office of Dr. Howard and later Dr. Holverson.

Wenona married Gary Richard (Dick) Jensen September 24, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. They raised their eight children on their farm on Black Canyon Highway. They were married 48 years. She lovingly cared for him as his health declined until he passed away in 2001. She married Frank Coombs in 2004 and enjoyed 16 years with him until he passed away in 2020.

Family was everything to Wenona. She was hardworking and industrious, did lots of sewing , gardening and canning and was able to feed and clothe her family well, even with little resources. She welcomed others into her home, including nieces, nephews and others who still claim her as a mother. She was always busy serving others, including doing community service. She was a social and happy person and loved to play games and enjoyed being a part of most any type of gathering.

Wenona was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and would like to be remembered for her faith and testimony. She served in many callings-ward and stake Primary President, in Young Women's and served in church callings related to Family History including two Family History missions in Salt Lake City, first with Dick and later with Frank. She loved doing genealogy.

Wenona was preceded in death by her husbands, daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Ralph Mouritsen, and brothers Ronald, Wayne, and Jim. She is survived by her children, Marita (Rod), Laurel, Vaughn (Lisa), Shelly (Mike), Eric (Brenda), Heather (Charlie), Doyle (Trine), and son-in-law Alan (Carol), and 45 grandchildren, 124 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Phyllis, Renae, Mary, Kay, and Julia, and brothers Duane, Donald, Mark, Jerry, and many of Frank's children and grandchildren.

There will be a viewing on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Potter Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held on Saturday, at 3:00 PM February 15, 2025 at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (980 W. Central Road, Emmett, Idaho), with a viewing the hour prior. Burial will follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
