Billie Korte, 88 of Metropolis, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Sept. 15, 2025, at Faith Lutheran Church with Donald Strong and Zack Browning officiating. Burial followed in Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
Billie was an industrial mechanic for 27 years. After retirement, he joined a few of his friends and started a local construction company. He loved carpentry and helping people, and these two things paired well as they performed many tasks for others no matter how big or small. Billie used his skills during the construction of Faith Lutheran Church, of which he was a member, and even built the Ark on the playground that is still enjoyed by the church children and the summer Gear Up program that is hosted on the grounds. He had three main loves- God, family, and farm. He was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church, was a lifelong farmer, and never missed an event of his children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and papa who is going to be deeply missed.
Billie survived by his wife of 68 years, Florence Korte; children, Sherry Hunerkoch and husband Phil, Rob Korte and wife Charla, and Chuck Korte and wife Beth; seven grandchildren, Ashley Browning (Zack), Adam Hunerkoch (Halie), Dustin Korte (Chanler), Dalton Korte (Sarah), Chase Korte (Maci Blackwell), Emma Korte and McKinnley Korte; eight great grandchildren, Max Browning, Cooper Browning, Palmer Hunerkoch, Tate Hunerkoch, Ty Korte, Charlie Ann Korte, Lila Grace Korte, and Everett Korte; one sister, Donna Sue Kinkade and husband Lawrence; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Korte.
