Linda Jo (Bruce) Thompson, 77, of Metropolis, born July 26, 1948, left this world to be with the Lord on Sept. 11, 2025.
She embraced life. She felt the highs and lows intensely and deeply. She engaged with people everywhere she went. You couldn't take her anywhere without her talking to everyone who made eye contact with her. She was so fun to be around. People were drawn to her. Her wit, imagination, and creativity were unmatched. Special occasions were her time to shine for her family and friends. She could do the work of an entire restaurant staff. She decorated and planned activities. Every occasion was wonderful for everyone attending. Even though she was working her butt off, she was having the time of her life serving others. She was delighted when folks jockeyed for the last piece of pie or the last bit of chicken and dumplings. She loved hard, and she could hold grudges for a long time, but she had a strong sense of fairness and justice. After all, she was only human.
The most important person in her life was her husband of 54 years. He facilitated all of her whims and helped her in her endeavors to serve the family and others. She had lived in many states, towns, houses, and even institutions. She made a real home for all with whom she dwelt. She celebrated each person in her household, which made everyone want to please her. The good Lord dealt out a lot love and instruction through her.
She was preceded in death by her parents Walter (Pete) Melton Bruce and Eva Gertrude (Monroe) Bruce. Sisters Shirley Jean (Bruce) Vaughn and Betty Jane( Bruce) Cochran. Brothers Carrol Melton Bruce, and Don Mack Bruce.
She was survived by her husband, Ronald Wayne Thompson. Children Scott Walter Street, Eva Jo Thompson, and Rhonda Eulene Thompson. grandchildren Blake Scott Street, Destenie (Annable) Sullivan, Heather Mechell Street, August Demsey James, Mecca James, and Eden James. great grandchildren, Lincoln Asher Sullivan, Wells Finley Sullivan, Joshua Thomas Spencer, Indie Rey Sullivan, and Charlee Rae Spencer. Sisters, Peggy June (Bruce) Quillman, Sandra Joyce (Bruce) Butts and her husband Roger Butts. Dozens of nieces and nephews along with other folks children who she cared for and taught life skills to.
In her absence, she will leave an unfillable void. We miss her already.
