Adam Wolkovich Obituary

Adam J. Wolkovich, 94, of Hudson/ Framingham passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9, 2021. His wife of 54 years, Kathleen L. (Fahey) Wolkovich, his brother Rev. William Wolkovich and his sister-in-law Norah Ducharme predeceased him. He is survived by his son John Wolkovich of Alstead, NH; his loving daughters: Mary Keville and husband Stephen of Plymouth, Kathleen Wiedeman and husband Daniel of Berlin, Ellen Allen and husband Peter of Hollis, NH, Christine Janson and husband James of Amherst, NH, Nancy Atchue and husband Mark of Grafton and Cynthia Wright and husband William of Jefferson; his 16 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law William Ducharme; niece Jeannine Haight; and nephew Paul Ducharme. Adam was born and raised in Hudson, the son of the late Ludvik S. and Helen (Zukauskas) Wolkovich. He attended St Michaels Grammar School and graduated from Hudson High School in 1944 and then enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country during WWII aboard the USS Helena in the Pacific. Inspired by his high school days part-time job at Lucias Pharmacy, upon returning from the service, Adam enrolled at the Boston School of Pharmacy, boarding the old commuter rail from Hudson to Boston until he earned his Certificate in Pharmacy. Through their dear friend, Marion Phaneuf, he would meet and marry Kay, raise his 7 children in Hudson and work as the owner of Hudson Pharmacy for over 20 years. After its closing in 1973, he continued to work for local independent pharmacies, including the Lincoln Pharmacies and Bouvier Pharmacies, until his retirement at the age of 78. Adam served as a member of the Hudson Board of Health and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, president of Assabet Valley Visiting Nurses Association, a lector and active member with Christ the King Church, and a longtime Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. After retirement, he became a dedicated volunteer at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham. Adam was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and gardener, growing vegetables every summer. He took great pride in his faith, Lithuanian heritage, his profession, community service and being a WWII veteran. He was most proud of his children and grandchildren and delighted in his great- grandchildren. He left us the most beautiful example of love through the care he provided to his wife during her illness. A visit with Adam would often end with one of his favorite phrases, 'invicem oremus' (let us pray for each other). All are invited to his funeral Mass on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Parish, 21 Manning Street, Hudson, MA 01749 followed by burial in St. Michael Cemetery, Hudson.
