August Jose Obituary

August J. Jose, 92, a resident of Framingham since childhood, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham. He was the husband of Frances M. (Bennett) Jose, who died in December of 1994. They were married for 47 years. Born in Milford, son of the late Alipio and Maria (Calvao) Jose, he was a graduate of Framingham High School in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1946, including service on the USS Upshur out of Newport, R.I. and Norfolk, Va. Augie worked for the Dennison Mfg. Company in Framingham for 42 years. At the time of his retirement in the early 1980s, Augie worked in the retail department as Framingham production lead for the Gastonia, N.C., plant operations. He then worked in sales at McNeilly Oldsmobile in Chestnut Hill, until it closed in the late 1990s. Since then, he had worked at D + M Auto Parts. Augie was an avid athlete and passionate sports enthusiast. He started a flag football league in Framingham that went on for many years and provided many stories and fond memories for the participants. A lifelong fan of Boston sports teams, he was something of a Boston sports historian. If you wanted to know, he always knew the answer. In addition, he was a member of the Framingham Lodge of Elks, B.P.O.E. # 1264. A wonderful and giving father and family man, he will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and passion for the things he loved. He is survived by two sons, Theodore B. Jose and his wife, Patricia Ferrucci Jose, of Hopedale, Ronald P. Jose and his fiance, Karen Casella, of Framingham; one daughter, Deborah J. Bennett Munn and her husband, Alex M. Munn, of Alpharetta, Ga.; three sisters, Anna Anes, Eugenia (Jenny) Bacchiocchi and Laura Martinelli, all of Framingham; three grandchildren, Christine (Jose) Labb and her husband, Dana Labb, of Northborough, Robert M. Jose of Hopedale and Jacqueline E. Jose of South Boston; two step-grandchildren, David Munn and Christopher Munn of Atlanta, Ga.; numerous nieces and nephews, including David McQuinn of Ashland; and grandnieces and -nephews. He was father of Richard A. Jose, who died in 1965. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 10 a.m., at St. Stephens Church, 251 Concord St. in Framingham. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Stephens Cemetery in Framingham. Calling hours are Monday, Nov. 12, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Eugene J. McCarthy and Sons Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St., Framingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in Augies memory may be made to MetroWest Home and Hospice, 85 Lincoln St., Framingham, MA 01702.

Dear Ron, Deborah and Ted:

No words of mine will supply the comfort and the strength which these days must surely require of you. However, I could not let the day pass without letting each of you know how very deeply I am feeling the effects of this crushing news of your father's passing.

To say that I was very fond of Augie would merely be the echo of all who ever knew him. He was a man whose kindness I admired, whose wisdom I respected and whose friendship I treasured.

There is an Irish saying: “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” While no one will miss him as much as you, please know that I, for one, will always remember him with great affection and count myself fortunate for having known him.

He was and always shall be an extraordinarily fine and gentle man who had a unique appreciation, sensitivity and understanding of others. He always treated people with compassion, respect and a genuine concern for their well-being.

While time may dim our specific memory of what he may have said or done when we sought his guidance, no one will ever forget his special way of making us feel better and more confident in our ability to handle a life challenge or overcome a personal difficulty.

Christine, Jim, Kevin, and Caitlin join me in sending to each of you (and your families) our most sincere sympathy & friendship as well as the hope that the great sorrow you have now will somehow be mitigated by the pride you must feel about your father and the legacy of such goodwill he left with each of us.

Augie will always be one of my first picks for flag football. He was always there in late summer to reserve the field, help stripe it, and to share his stories. I will miss his easy smile, his positive nature, and his camaraderie over a cold beer and a laugh on his back porch. I'm glad he was part of my life.

One of the greatest men in my life. A true mentor and friend. I will never forget all the wonderful times. We all love you Augie. Maggie, Meghan, Ted and Ed Guardiani.
