Charles Speranzella Obituary

Charles "Raymond" Speranzella, 74, of Cocoa Beach, FL, formerly of Marlborough, MA, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, following a brave, three year fight against Melanoma cancer. Ray was born in 1939 in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Michael and Margaret Speranzella. He attended schools in Baltimore, where he still has many friends from "Little Italy." He spent three years in the U.S. Army, finally being stationed in Mass. where he met his future wife of 53 years, Helen Carr of Marlborough, MA. For many years, Ray owned and operated Marco Liquors in Maynard, MA as well as Sperry's and Anthony's Liquors in Marlborough, MA. His son Tony has since taken over the businesses and has expanded on them. Ray loved to play softball, earning the nickname "the Hammer". He also played golf as a member of the Marlborough Country Club. Upon retiring to Florida, he joined the Cocoa Beach Country Club, where he played with the "Ball Busters" group, once scoring a hole-in-one, much to his delight. Ray also loved landscaping, puttering around the yard and making everything beautiful. Ray is survived y his wife Helen, his sons Tony and his wife Liz and Mark. Grandchildren Mark A., Jenna, Michael, Erica, Brett, Nick and Lauren and great-granddaughter Bailey. Also leaves his brothers Mike and Joe and his sisters Marlene, Anna Mae, Connie and Phyllis. He was preceded in death by his sisters Pat and Joan. No date has been set for the "Celebration of Ray's Life" this summer in Marlborough, MA. The John P. Rowe Funeral Home, Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, MA are in care of local arrangements.
