John Mockus Obituary

John F. Mockus Sr. , 89, died Tuesday March 3 after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of Catherine (Galvin) Mockus to whom he was married for 68 years. He was born in Boston, the son of the late Joseph and Domicella (Galmun) Mockus and lived in Marlborough for 55 years. Mr. Mockus worked as a technician for the Union Carbide Corp. in Sudbury for 48 years prior to his retirement. After his retirement he went on to work as a driver for Gulkbankian Bus Lines in Southborough and Assabet Transportation in Marlborough. Mr. Mockus was long time member of the Teamsters Union Local #25 in Boston. Along with his wife, he was an original member of Saint Matthias Parish in Marlborough. Mr. Mockus was an avid fisherman and was a former member of the Marlborough Fish and Game. Besides his wife he is survived by one son John Mockus Jr. of Worcester, two daughters; Linda LeBlanc and her husband "Skip" of Estero Fla. and Deborah Mockus of Marlborough, one sister Delia Breadmore and her husband David of Braintree, two sisters in law; Stella Mockus of Naples Fla. and Kathleen Galvin of Maynard, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in Saint Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St. Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home (www.shortfuneral.com), 95 West Main St. Marlborough. Memorial contributions may be made to the Living Memorial of the Friends of the Marlborough Seniors, PO Box 358, Marlborough MA 01752.
