Dear Cleary Family,
I received my most recent edition of the Boston College Magazine today and was so saddened to read of Joe's passing. While I was a class behind Joe at B.C., I had the good fortune to live across the hall from him his junior year. Your son, brother, husband, father and friend was a fantastic person who brought many laughs to me and my roommates. Joe brought much joy to the people around him and I hope that these memories bring you comfort.

To the entire Cleary Family,
I played against Joe in college and got to know him through the tight fraternity that is the hockey world. I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was a special guy and I am a better person because I knew him. I know words can't ease the pain but someday, down the road, please know that Joe's impact on people who were fortunate enough to know him was immense. You and your families have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard of Joe's passing.
And, Joe has been too. I reminisce of the 70s and 80s on Kosmas, him running with the big boys (me, Bob, and Don), playing all kinds of sports, and the age difference not being the slightest factor.
Though he was young, I knew he was gifted. . . and in more that just sports as all these other 'guests' have shared.

Joe was one of the most genuine people I have ever come across. He was the real deal. He always told it like it was and often with gut wrenching humor and wit. Joe often shared stories of Christopher with much pride. I hope Christopher will one day know what a great man his father was. He was loved by many and will surely be missed.
