Lawrence J. "Larry" Kangas

BELLINGHAM Lawrence J. "Larry" Kangas, 80, of Bellingham, and a former longtime resident of Franklin and West Roxbury, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2008, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following a long illness. He was the husband of Nancy I. (Liuzza) Kangas for more than 52 years. Born in Thomaston, Maine, in August 1928, a son of the late Waino and Signe (Johnson) Kangas, he was raised and educated in Maine, and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Maine. Until his retirement, Mr. Kangas worked as a mechanical engineer for the HNTB Consulting & Engineering Co. for more than 30 years. He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his children and grandchildren, and traveling with them. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, Lawrence W. Kangas and his wife, Judy, of Metarie, La., Paul J. Kangas and his wife, Wendy, of Franklin; a daughter, Mary L. Irvine and her husband Paul of Franklin; a sister, Linda Rowling of Maine; six grandchildren, Holly Hale, Ashley Kangas, Stephanie Kangas, Samantha Irvine, Maria Kangas and Lauren Irvine. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 8:15 a.m., at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home (www.franklinfuneral.com), 33 Cottage St., with a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Franklin, at 9 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
