Michael R. Merrill

Michael R. Merrill, 71, of Milford passed away Wed. May 14, 2014 at Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford. He was the husband of Diane M. (Colettis) Merrill. Mr. Merrill had been employed as an insurance broker at Equitable Life in NY, NJ, and MA for a number of years. He later worked for Boynton Insurance in Needham. He was born on September 7, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Gordon R. and Ellen A. (Fitzgerald) Merrill. Michael was a graduate of Seton Hall High School in Patchogue, NY. He was a Vietnam War veteran, serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific-Asian Theater. Michael was a man of many interests, talents and humor. He was a collector of coins, stamps, and trains. His life revolved around his family and took great pride in his grandsons. In addition to his wife of nearly 48 years, Diane, Michael is survived his children, Melanie A. and her husband Richard Palmieri of Wrentham, Michael G. and his wife Lisa B. Merrill of Thompson, CT, and Nickie A. Merrill of Milford; two sisters, Pam and her husband Henry Rooney of NC, and Ellen and her husband Roger Guist of FL; a brother-in-law Peter Colettis and his wife Fran; three grandchildren, John Michael Merrill, Michael James Merrill, and Vincent Michael Palmieri and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held Mon. May 19, 2014 from 5-8 PM in the BUMA-SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress Street, Milford. Funeral services, with full military honors, will be held Tues. May 20, 2014 at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 AM in Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, Chapel of the Holy Spouses Mary and Joseph, 7 East Main Street, Milford.
