Norman Hapgood Obituary

Norman Hapgood, 92, a resident of Lincoln since 1953, died peacefully at his home on October 22, 2011, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease and dementia. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Norman Hapgood Sr. (who was serving as ambassador there) and Elizabeth Reynolds Hapgood. He was predeceased in 2007 by his wife of 63 years, Ruth (Knott) Hapgood. Norman was best known in Lincoln for riding his unicycle in the July 4th parade and quirky participation in Town Meeting. He is survived by his younger brother, David Hapgood of New York City; daughters Margo Coates and husband Dale of Framingham, and Fae Fuerst and husband Carlton of Royal Oak, Michigan; grandson Russell Ward and wife Tracie of Sudbury; granddaughter Christine Ward of Warren; and four great-grandsons. Internment of both Norman and Ruth will be at the Lincoln Cemetery (Lexington Road) at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 19; all are welcome. A celebration of Norman's life will follow, shortly after 2:00 pm at the Pierce House (17 Weston Road).
