Phillips Brooks Obituary

Phillips Phil Brooks, 81, passed away Friday April 11, 2014. Born in Muskogee, OK, he graduated from Tulsa, OK High School and then earned a Bachelors and Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from MIT. He lived with his family in Wayland from 1968 until 2009 and spent his career working for American Optical in Bedford and Doble Engineering in Watertown, before retiring in 1998. He enjoyed skiing, sailing, woodworking, model trains and boats. Mr. Brooks was pre-deceased by his son Buddy Brooks, and parents, MaryFrances Paul and Phillips R. Brooks. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Martha Ellis Brooks, son Stephen Brooks and wife Cathy of Clarkston, MI, daughter Lauren Hebert and husband Alain of Cranbury, NJ, five grandchildren Scott Brooks, Julia Brooks, Delano Hebert, Addison Hebert and Remington Hebert. He is also survived by five sisters, Paula Karleskint of Bradenton, FL, Ellen Jacobs of Verdigris, OK, Leda Conner of Stillwater, OK, Kathy Brown of Tulsa, OK and Bethy Clary of Tulsa, OK. He was an extremely devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his wife and family. Visitations will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 11:00 to 12:00 noon at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Road (Off Rte 30), Wayland. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Brooks family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wayland High School Scholarship Committee, Buddy Brooks Scholarship, PO BOX 36, Wayland, MA 01778. What a dear man Phil was. It's hard to believe his is gone. I remember so well the night he and Lauren and her son came to our house for dinner as Phil was moving to NJ. What a wonderful family. I am so sorry.

Both Jo and I are deeply saddened at Phil's passing and Martha and his family are in our thoughts and prayers - they were such a great couple and he was one I always enjoyed with his smile and sense of humility - he will be missed among our SAE family.
