Phyllis O'Connell Obituary

NAPLES, FLA. Phyllis J. OConnell, formerly of Wayland, died peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2008, in Naples, Fla. Born Phyllis Jane Perry on July 27, 1926, she grew up in Cochituate, attended Wayland High School, and married William Billy OConnell in 1953. Together they had two daughters, Carole OConnell of South Sutton, N.H., and Linda Foley of Eagle, Colo. Upon the passing of her husband in 1966, Phyllis sold the family business, Post Road Liquors in Wayland. She then embarked on a fulfilling professional career and retired from Raytheon as an executive secretary in 1994. In 1995, she moved to Naples, Fla., and quickly became involved in many social, religious and volunteer activities. She was a devout parishioner and CCD member at St. John The Evangelist Church. She acquired many new friends and supportive neighbors who often called her the go-go gal because she was always busy or running off to some new activity. Phyllis enjoyed playing bridge and tiles with her friends; she loved to exercise and swim, was an avid bicyclist and took pleasure in walking the beaches of Florida. Besides her two daughters, she leaves two grandsons, Jimmy and Shane Foley of Eagle, Colo. In keeping with her wishes, there will be a memorial Mass held at St. John The Evangelist Church on Thursday, June 26, at 11 a.m. There will be an inurnment in the Memorial Gardens at St. John Church. The family respectfully request to omit flowers. Memorial contributions in memory of Phyllis OConnell may be made to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL. 34105. Arranagements are by the Michael S. Fuller Funeral Home, Naples, Fla. (239-592-1611.www.fullerfuneralhome.com).
