Ruth H. Durkin

1924 - 2018

Ruth Helen (Andrews) Durkin, 93, a longtime resident of Framingham and Falmouth, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 18, 1924 in Roslindale, MA, Ruth was the daughter of the late Harry and Annie (Garrity) Andrews, the loving wife of 61 years to the late James P. Durkin Jr., and the mother of the late Karen Durkin. Ruth graduated from St Margarets School of Nursing and was a caring nurse at Framingham Union Hospital for many years. Her family and faith were most important to Ruth. She loved spending time outdoors, gardening and enjoying the many birds who came to her feeders. She also loved music and dancing and was an avid reader. After raising her family and retiring from nursing, Ruth and Jim moved to Falmouth, Cape Cod where she loved walks along the ocean and hosting family parties. Ruth is survived by her children, Kathy Hobin and her husband Jim of Milford, Paul Durkin and his wife Doreen of Norton, John Durkin and his wife Judy of Groton, Mary Durkin Smith and her hus- band Robert of Framingham, Patricia Durkin-Smith and her husband Kevin of Natick and Joe Durkin and his wife Jessica of Westford. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Matthew, Jenny, Nicholas, Emily, Thomas, Katlyn, Ryan, Melissa, Michael, Sean, and Melissa C., a great grandson, Jeremy and many nieces and nephews. Ruth was the sister of Richard Andrews and his late wife Ethel of Sudbury, the late Harold and Alma Andrews of Harwich, the late Robert Andrews and his wife Lillian of Canton, the late Marion and Frank Glennon of Mashpee. She was also predeceased by Edward and Stephanie Durkin, Betsy Durkin, and Rosemary Doherty, all of Quincy. Ruth is also survived by Jose and Leila Lorbes of Brockton and Diane Arathuzik of West Roxbury. Visiting hours at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street, (corner of Union Ave,) Framingham, MA will be Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 4 - 7 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her funeral Mass on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 9:00 am at St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Rd., Rte 9 at Framingham Centre. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery.
