Sean Thomas OConnor, 60, died peacefully and comfortably at Saint Vincent Hospital on December 4, 2013 following a courageous and dignified battle of 10 months with bladder cancer. He was born on May 1, 1953 the son of Thomas OConnor and Grace (Noyes) OConnor both of Albany, New Hampshire. Sean is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Pamela R. Van Sipe of Hopkinton, MA. He is also survived by his daughter Kelly Rose and her husband Richard of Oswego, IL as well as their son Richie Rose of Oswego, IL; his brother Michael OConnor and wife Mary Jane of Roseville, MN, brother Dennis OConnor and wife Karen of Orford, NH, sister Deidre Sheets and husband John of Norwich, VT and sister Sheila OConnor and her husband Mark Pidgeon of Galmpton Devon, England; His niece Claire OConnor and nephews Zachary Sheets, Travis OConnor, Ethan OConnor and Kyle OConnor. Sean has been a resident of Hopkinton for the past 28 years. He grew up in Dedham, MA and was a graduate of Dedham High School. He has had a long and dedicated career of over 40 years as a Plant Engineer with Nyacol Nano Technologies of Ashland. He was an avid golfer and skier and enjoyed the outdoors. He also worked for the Wachusett Mountain race department where he assisted as a Pace Setter for NASTAR and other ski racing events. He was well loved and respected by his friends and colleagues and will be greatly missed by all of the people whose lives he touched. At the request of his family there will be no funeral home visitations. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorial gifts in Seans name may be sent to the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the John C. The last time I saw Sean he was grilling dinner and wearing a Hawaiian shirt. And he looked happy. And he proudly told of how he could beat the young kids on the race course skiing. I will remember him young, vibrant, and well. You left us too soon. Farewell, my friend.

Some of us have known Sean for 35+ years, watching him grow both in his position at Nyacol and his personal life, while others knew him for only a short time. Some of us were counted amongst his friends. No matter how long you had the opportunity to know Sean, he always displayed many endearing qualities -- commitment, honesty, respect, knowledge, willingness, humility and consistency -- in his work and in the way he interacted with others. Sean will be greatly missed and a huge void remains.

The photos are great. I didn't know Sean outside of Nyacol, but what I did know of him, was a smart, quiet, even-keeled person that I enjoyed working with. I am so sorry for your loss and I hope that thinking of him and sharing your memories will soften the sadness.
