Vernon Norman Obituary
Visitation is from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, at Arnold Funeral Home. Memorial Services will begin at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will follow the service. Private burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Vernon was born on August 15, 1947, in Mexico, the son of Edward Owen and Maxine Harriett (VanDrew) Norman. On December 18, 1971, in Mexico, he married Jane Carol Long.
Vernon graduated from Mexico High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from 1967-1971, serving two tours in Vietnam.
Mr. Norman had worked as an accountant for Wetterau Foods, Rural Water District #1 and Kelley Kleans in Columbia.
Vernon was an avid dry fly trout fisherman. He had been active in local Boy Scouts for over 30 years and was a member of the Mexico Optimist Club for 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Norman of the home; three children, Phillip Norman of Dallas, Texas, Amy (Mike) Groves of Mexico and Daniel (Kara) Norman of Mexico; three grandchildren, Sidny Groves of Florida, Morgan Norman of Dallas, Texas, and Samuel Adair of Mexico; two sisters, Edna DeFord of Arizona and Harriett Vaccaro of New Jersey; three sisters-in-law, Martha (George) Phillips of South Carolina, Nancy (Bill) Moss of Sedalia and Valerie (Ken) Murray of Lee's Summit; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Norman was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Dortzel Cockrum; and three brothers-in-law, John Long, Kenneth DeFord and Pete Vaccaro.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital or the charity of your choice. They may be sent in care of Arnold Funeral Home, 425 S. Jefferson, Mexico, MO 65265.
