Doris West McMillan, age 97, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord at 5:57 p.m. Tuesday June 11, 2019 at Piqua Manor Nursing Home. She was born February 16, 1922 in Sidney, OH to the late Herman and Stella (Williams) West. She married Thomas G. McMillan and he preceded her in death January 10, 1995.
She is survived by her cousin: Jean Robinson and her children. She is also survived by her good friend and caregiver who gave her over twenty years of loving care.
Doris graduated from Piqua Central High School in 1941. She attended the former Congregational Church of Christ, Piqua. She was an avid accordion player in her younger years and played in several Piqua establishments. She had the honor of knowing the Mills Brothers. She was a bus driver for the Piqua City School District for 27 years and also for Lehman Highschool, Sidney, OH. She was employed as the Payroll Administrator for Miller Meteor in Piqua for ten years. She was also employed at Moore Equipment Company in Dayton as Office Manager for ten years and worked at the Springs Supper Club in Piqua as a greeter and coat valet. Doris's life was centered around her best friends, her dogs: three living: "Cookie," "Pepper," "The Kid," and five cherished dogs that preceded her in death: "Sugar," "Kelli," "Tasha," "Cookie" and "Dasha."
A Celebration of Doris's life will be held Thursday June 20, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua with Bill Mote officiating. A short service will follow at Fletcher Cemetery, Fletcher, OH. Friends will be received Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
