Esther Mindt Obituary

PIQUA - Esther (Mindt) Mindt, a resident of Piqua, formerly of Englewood, went to her heavenly home on November 16, 2025, following a short stay for rehab at Piqua Manor. She was born February 25, 1928, in Blue Grass, ND to Gottlieb and Helen (Betz) Mindt.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and 1 grandson. Three sisters survive, Lucille Iveson of California, Gloria Voegele of Indiana, and mavis Wiedenmeyer of Washington.

Esther was married to Leon W. Mindt on November 27, 1947 at the German Congregational Church in Blue Grass, ND (yes, her name stayed the same as they were 4th cousins) and to their union was blessed with three daughters, Cynthina (Rev. Floyd) Sollenberger, Sylvia (Raymond II) Daniels, and Rev. Dr. Arlys (Jerry) Fogt all affectionately called "double Mindts" by their parents. Her legacy of faith continues with seven grandchildren, Mindy, Wendy, Jerry, Ray III (deceased), Kelly, Steven, and Holly; sixteen great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

She was a homemaker during her early years of marriage but when her youngest started school, she returned to school to get her high school diploma from Ramona HS (1959) in SD and started college at Kearney State Teachers' College in NE, fulfilling her dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. She taught for 4 years in NE before moving with her husband to Dayton where he attended and we lived at the United Theological Seminary. She began teaching with the Huber Heights school system, first in a Huber home (until more schools were built), then moving to Rushmore and finally retiring from Titus Elementary. She went on to substitute at the Miami Valley Career Center until she was 80 years old.

She was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ professing her faith in him as a teenager. She served as a pastor's wife in SD, NE, KS, and OH with both the former EVB denomination and the UCC denomination. In her retirement years, she was an active member at Englewood United Methodist Church, transferring her member to Greene Street, when her husband's death caused her to move to Piqua. She supported many missionaries and missions and was an ardent prayer warrior. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 7741. She enjoyed reading, coloring, and crafting.

The family will receive friends from 12-1 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025, at St. Paul's Church, 500 N. Downing St, Piqua, OH 45356 with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM, Dr. Keith Gebhart officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Arrangements are in care of Hale-Sarver Family Funeral Home, West Milton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Church, Piqua. Earlier today

I taught with Esther when we taught together at Titus Elementary in Huber Heights. She was always proud to show me the lunch her husband packed every day for her. My sincere sympathy to her family. Judy Holt
